Is there any chance we can get Elton Brand in the offseason?

Is there? He would pretty much sum as up for a contender next year. Since he is a free agent, is there possibly a way we could get him? What would we have to get rid of or trade away to get him?
P.S. - I understand it's the playoffs and all, but I really want to know what people think about this subject. Please don't lock it, it's not hurting anybody or anything.

We don't need him. We have Carl Landry!

Well he's not accepting the MLE so it'd be a sign and trade.
I honestly don't think we'd have the pieces. They'd probably want Landry and Brooks and for us to take on a bad contract like Tim Thomas or something and we don't have nearly the flexibility or options to bring in another max player.
If he's going to opt out a place like Philly could look enticing. He gets a max contract and
Miller
Iggy
Young
Brand
Dalembert
with guys Williams off the bench all with another year of experience should be pretty damn good.

Since the season is over now, more people can discuss this...
I mean if we can get Elton Brand, we are set (hopefully health doesn't once again kill us). The only way I see Elton coming to Houston is if he actually wants to come here. I think we should do everything possible to get this man without losing T-Mac and Yao.
If we had Brand, our starting lineup would look like this
PG: Steve Francis
SG: Tracy McGrady
SF: Shane Battier
PF: Elton Brand
C: Yao Ming
That would be a badass team... I don't know why, but I have a strong feeling we will get Brand in the offseason.

we would have to swing some form of deal that would gut all our depth so we would still have a crap bench

I can't believe people are still dreaming of Steve Francis being our starting point. Francis sucked even when he was healthy! Face it, I went to Maryland University and I've accepted Steve is washed up -- get over it. As for Brand, I'd love to have him but he love's LA and we can't afford him. If you google him I'm sure you can find out about all his non-basketball activities. Apparently, he's doing allot of work in the film industry so Hollywood is where he wants to be.

We are nowhere on Brands plans IMO because he could sign a max contract and get traded to Miami.. We know they want him, and he has more options to get paid..

Not gonna happen. Besides, Power Forward is by far our best position. What we need is to go for another scoring wingman who can make plays.
A Josh Howard, Corey Maggette, Mike Miller or Ron Artest. All of these guys are up for grabs in the offseason, and I'm going to be disappointed if we don't at least TRY to get one.

Two rookies set our PF position? Are you crazy? I understand Scola is good, but PF is not our best position.

Yes it is. Are you blind? It's really the only position where we have two really good players. Deke has been great, but he's too old, and doesn't even play when Yao is healthy. Every other position has garbage backups. It's sad when two rookies cement your best position, but it's true.

It's sad to say, but I think Deke is going to go (retire). SO, are you saying you would rather have Scolandry over Brand, if we traded both for Brand? I understand too you it maybe the best position, but if we can get Brand, I would take it any day over those two rookies.

I never said they were better than Brand, but the two of them combined can give us his production. They'll be cheaper, and we already have Yao in the post. I'd rather address our weaknesses than go for an upgrade at an already strong position.

Brand, while undersized, could play some backup C and I would still love to get him if we could.. But he wouldn't be on our TO DO list unless he states he wants to come here.
