Free Throws

Post#1 » by Nachbar_is_God » Sun Apr 27, 2008 6:13 am

What is the deal? I don't ever remember our team being this bad at free throws. They have cost us at least 2 games this series. If i remember correctly, when Rick was hired people said that his practices consisted more of scrimmaging than of running drills, while on the other hand, JVG's practices were more drill intensive. Could the lack of proper free throw drills during practice be the cause for such a poor FT shooting team? Does Rick need to get on them about FT's?

What do you guys think? Am i just crazy with that theory? All i know is that with every missed FT my blood pressure shoots threw the roof

I have no confidence in any player going to the line on our team (cept for Yao at times). Absolutely nobody, it's pathetic really. I mean it's just a mental thing and something you could have argued cost us Game 2 and Game 4.

You can't blame Adelman. The players need to take it on themselves to practice more. The announcers kept saying that because Boozer missed 5 free throws in Game 3, he showed up to practice an hour and a half early just to shoot free throws. That's what our team needs to do.

Eh, I'm pretty cool with Aaron Brooks and Luther Head at the line. But Rafer, Battier, and especially Tmac make me cringe.

Ironically, I'm also cool with Dike at the line. He might be our best FT shooter left.

Yao shot 100 FTs after he got off the crutches and his 93 then the next day hit like 96. That's like crazy. Yao seems to have a pretty good work ethic that the other rockets need to learn. People ask me how I shoot so well (which I don't think I really do), and I tell them repetition. Like with any sport, repetition and practice makes your game better. There's no way around it, not hiring the best FT coach in the world will make you better without actually shooting it and shooting it a lot. People say it's fatigue, but I've seen us miss plenty even at the start of the game. When a team misses free throws constantly, it shows that they aren't working at it hard enough. =/

Yeah haha, I was actually thinking of mentioning I probably trust Deke the most of any player we have left on the roster.

I don't think they put in enough time in practicing FTs. I think Adelman should hold like a game or something in practice for FTs. I was watching ESPN and this college coach did that for their team and they improved significantly. We should either do that, OR hire a shooting coach. We are in need of one, especially Scola and Hayes. Unorthodox to the max.

Guys like Scola and Hayes have really strange shooting forms, i'm not surprised they aren't making their share of free throws. They're never gonna be good FT shooters no matter what. Its when shooters like Bobby jackson, Alston and especially Tmac brick their FT that makes me mad as hell. WTF is going on?

I mean a shooting coach would help the whole team though. Look at Dallas and PHX. Shaq has gotten better because of Phoenix's shooting coach and Dallas has had a shooting coach for a while now. They have always been in the top 5 every year. We need that.

Mcgrady-Unacceptable , even pathetic.
Battier-Needs to shoot at least 75% with that shotting ability.
Landry-Doing a good jon in the series.
Jackson-Pathetic % for a guard.
Alston-Still didn't shoot a ft this series , was decent in the regular season.
Brooks-good job
Deke-good job.
Scola-never was a good ft shoter

It's T-Mac's responsibility to make everyone around him better. Even shooting free throws.

If only Calvin Murphy did some free throw drills with the Rockets.
