Mike "Spanky" Miller

With the offseason already upon us I thought it would be good to get a better look at some of the players we could possibly land no matter how likely or unlikely. This thread is obviously geared towards No 33. He's T-Macs best friend in the league and a great guy on and off the court. These videos are for your viewing pleasure and hopefully you come away knowing a little more than you did before watching.

http://www.vimeo.com/983505 - Mike Miller Memphis season in review - Really gives you a sense of the hard work Mike puts in and just how passionate he is about winning in this league.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=zjKk092NupI - Mike Miller putting up some 3 balls.

http://dimemag.com/2008/02/07/shoot-like-mike-miller/ - Another look at Mike going through shooting drills. Damn that shot is pretty. Not only would it open up space for Yao and Mac, but one can envision Mike burying teams that choose to double our stars with his unlimited range.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=pwF_UApcP20 - In game action. Shows his playmaking ability as well as shot making prowess.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=Kl7CWa3lm6o - Yet another look at mike on the hardwood.

So what do you all think? Do we stand a chance at landing Mike and if so would you prefer him over other options?

Keep in mind, that with the exception of the Pau Gasol trade, you have to give something to get something.

Who are you proposing we trade for him?

From what I've read about Memphis their plan is to go very young and they don't intend on truly competing until few years down the road. That being sad I feel as if their asking price will significantly decrease. They do love Miller there, but I feel they may reward his professionalism and leadership and would be open minded about shipping him to a place of his choosing. At the very least I feel as if they will provide him with options. Hopefully we don't have too give up as much as one would think.

Yep... it's all true.

I think we know for a fact that Miller will be gone most likely in the off-season. It's a matter of offering the right package that includes draft pick(s), expiring contracts, and perhaps even our rookies.

Memphis will look to package Brian Cardinal with Mike Miller. One thing that absolutely does not make sense is the fact that Memphis did not force Lakers to take on Brian Cardinal's contract. If you are going to do the deal strictly to dump salary, why not force the team to take your albatross contract?

If it's for:
-expirings (B.Jax) + Head = hell yeah
-expirings (B.Jax) + a 1st round pick = still have to pull the trigger
-expirings (B.Jax) + Brooks = only if they force our hand
-expirings (B.Jax) + Landry = go away

How about...

-expirings (B.Jax) + Brooks + 1st Round (and maybe + 2nd Round)

Still sounds good to me.

What about B.Jax + Francis + 1st rounder?

We need our 3 point shooting back. I say we get him for anyone not named T-Mac, Yao, Battier, and Francis.

Still sounds good. We'd still have about 2.5m+ and a few other small assets to find another vaguely decent backup point. That should be do-able?

I don't want anyone with the nickname "spanky".

C-Yao
PF-Scola
SF-Battier
SG-Miller
PG-Tmac

that would be really cool, and fun to watch...

tmac driving to the hoop with penetration as a point guard. he would either finish it, drop it to yao, or throw it back to the corner for battier, or anywhere on the court for miller... i honestly feel that would be the best lineup

BEST THING ABOUT TMAC AT PG... IS THAT HES TALL AND LONG AND COULD PREVENT PENETRATION BY THE OPPOSING POINT GUARD!!!

bench would be

C-deke???/Woods
PF-Landry
SF-rotate between tmac, battier, miller, or draft pick
SG-Francis
PG-Alston

we get miller by trading, Bobby Jackson + Brooks + Head + 2nd round pick

bobby jackson - old veteran, not a big loss

aaron brooks- to me it seems that people here are too high on the kid, sure hes fast and supposedly has a good shot, but hes not even 6 foot, and you cant teach height

Head- i actually like Lhead alot better than brooks, got a good shot, but wont even be more than the second man off the bench

2nd round pick- we are in win now mode... if they want a first, im willing to give...

am i just crazy or does someone agree with me that the starting lineup would be the best in the league... and our bench could use a bit of work at BACK UP center, but thats the only problem i see...

Wait. He's T-Mac's best friend?!?

I know they were teammates in Orlando, but that still seems like an odd pairing.

That's almost as shocking as if you had told me that Ron Artest's bff was Steve Novak.

Miller used to McGrady's best friend when they were teammates in Orlando.
I am almost certain this is no longer the case today.

Adding Mike Miller to our rotation at the expense of Bobby Jackson(and obviously involving others but none of which are in our rotation) would be absolutely fabulous.

That would make a great sitcom!

Francis would be one of my first to go in any kind of trade we could get. He will NEVER be the same player he used to be and I would be surprised if he is ever even a serviceable player in the league again.

i hate it. any starting lineup that has tracy mcgrady at pg is bad imo. mcgrady needs to do more work off the ball next year and get some higher% shots and more points. He can still be a great distributor, but making him the primary playmakers isn't a good idea.

as much as i'd love mike miller the 3 isn't where our shooting deficiencies need to be addressed. as much as i like rafer's ability to take care of the ball and make good passes his shooting(or lack thereof) is killing us. I'd rather address that, ideally getting kirk hinrich, before making any trades for mike miller who will essentially give us another 6-8 swing.

i understand where you are coming from, i also thought that... but i think this would actually work out really well... in my opinion the pros out weight the cons... i dont think it will ever happen, sorta just something i thought of when i replied to this thread... but just think about it for a bit and soak it in... i think its not all that bad
