Lofaro slid a roster in front of the young man and, feigning curiosity, asked him if he had any idea who the best player on the team would be. The young man pointed to one of the names: Lester Hudson.

"Oh, really?" Lofaro asked. "What makes him so good?"

"This guy can do it all," the young man said. "He can shoot. He can dribble. He can play defense. Just you watch."

What the young man neglected to mention, but Lofaro already knew, was that he was this mysterious Lester Hudson...

Sounds like Gil.

Gilbert was on a team that played for the National Championship (and lost to Shane's Duke team) so he was already a well known commodity at draft time.

If anyone from this draft is to be compared to Gilbert it should be his fellow Arizona Wildcat Jeryd Bayless.

I wouldnt give up Tmac for anyone in the draft unless it's Rose. PERIOD!! Not even beasley. Beasley isn't a winner in my eyes. People look at stats, "talent", etc and base their picks off that, but those are the GMs that fail. Good GMs look at poise in game time situations and not talent. Look at mike james, he had one good year in toronto (a crappy team) and everyone was on his nuts. Same goes for good college players on crappy teams and divisions. It's very, very rare to have someone from a small college do well in the pros (scotty pippen) is the only one that comes to mind. Also rare to have players from high school, with no pressure intense college experience, do well in the NBA. Bird, Magic, Jordan, Hakeem all had the situations in college that helped them handle the pressures at the professional level. Only player that hasnt done much in the league and was apart of a winning collegiate program is probably Melo.

I can't stand all this hype from the media. It's all a ploy from the league to make money. How many overhyped players have actually done anything in this league? Now people are offering kids in middle school contracts? What has this sport gone to?

Poise in game time situations? You mean like Rose missing a free throw with 10 seconds left that would have won a championship?

Bayless is as good as Arenas coming out of college. I agree that HE should be the one getting the '2nd coming of Arenas' comparisons.

Sounds like an overrated scrub to me.

Remember the second coming of Tracy McGrady? I do. His name was Devean George.

Remember the (other) second coming of Tracy McGrady? I do. His name was Qyntel Woods.

I don't have enough time to list all the "second comings" of Michael Jordan, although a few are quite memorable in their suckiness.

True. Gerald Green was also the second coming of Tracy...

However, Lester sounds like another Carl Landry type steal. His body is already developed and he plays defense and shoots 3's. If Daryl Morey made a visit to his coach to check his charachter they must be high on him. Sounds like our Deron stopper to me. He can go to the D League for the first half of the season until Steve Francis proves he's washed up AGAIN.
2008-09 Championship Depth Chart
1) Ben Gordon/ Aaron Brooks/ Rafer Alston
2)Tracy McGrady/ B. Barry/ V. Wafer
3) Shane Battier/ R. Artest/ C. Hayes
4) Luis Scola/C. Landry/Joey Dorsey
5) Yao/ D. Mutumbo/Sean Williams

Anybody actually see this guy play yet? He's playing in the middle of nowhere, I doubt he's actually NBA-calibur.
