yes something like. it's a big donation compared to other celebrities... though comparing donations is not such a good idea, you know what i mean.

updates of news say around 130 thousand people have been confirmed perished. geez, just a matter of seconds.

enjoy the games guys, it seems such a luxury. the mood in china is down right grim.

500k RMB is less than hundred thousand USD
$1USD= approx $5.9RMB
i guess Yao doesn't want China government to look bad
since China government donate $1M for Myanmar cyclone

It's a little over $70,000.

Definitely not a good time to live outside the U.S. if your income comes from the U.S.

that's the kindest thing to do.

As a joint effort with Mr. Yang ShouChen, JACKIE CHEN donated 10 million Yuan... No implication against Yao, but I think it's a great thing to do if Yao could start a fund-raising with Rockets. I mean, China is being a major part of the rockets market, shouldnt they do something?

well he is... but hey, it's sweet to see him cough up some of his dirty money for good purposes ;) I guess Jackie Chen did some really good job working on him.

It's time for YAO to start working on the ROCKETS now! With them being the good guys.

Before the torch relay this morning, a silent tribute was made by all attended.

I hope the olympics will cheer the nation up a bit.

According to Lu Hao, apparent somebody who speaks for the big man, that Yao's first 500,000 yuan was for the rescue only, and more money will most surely be donated for re-construction of the affect area.

I guess Yao did realize 500,000 is little considering the severity of the accident.

Today our company set up a stage and a donation box on open ground and everybody walked past the box in order, and put some cash in. it really feels good that one could do something for the poor poeple who are dying or suffering, at thousands of miles away.

so it was said by Yao's Manager, Zhang Mingji, that Yao was going to add another one and half million yuan to the previous half million, to make a donation of 2 MILLION YUAN for the earthquake relief.

Also it's reported that Yao is going to team up with Chinese Snooker star Ding Junhui to start a fund-raising event. I think that confirms my thoughts that yao is going to solicit to the Rockets guys now.

Anyway, whatever money that is donated, I want to tell the ones who spare the money, "you money is well spent", and thank you Yao, you are always the best, on and off court.

Alexander, Yao express condolences to China
Rockets plan to offer aide to country following earthquake

HOUSTON -- Rockets center Yao Ming and owner Leslie Alexander offered their condolences to China for the thousands of deaths stemming from a powerful earthquake that struck the country on Monday.

Officials have estimated that 15,000 people have died from the 7.9-magnitude quake and government workers are still searching for survivors.

Yao, who was born in Shanghai and will represent China in the 2008 Summer Olympics, said he was saddened to see the aftermath of the quake.

"It is very hard putting into words how difficult it is to see this kind of destruction in Sichuan," Yao said. "I am very saddened to hear of the large loss of life that has occurred. My thoughts are with everyone back in my home country of China during this very dark and emotional time. Right now, the most important thing we can do is to respond quickly to help those who cannot help themselves. I plan to do whatever I can and would like to thank Leslie Alexander and the Houston Rockets for the support they have already pledged. I hope that many others around the world will join us."

Alexander said the Rockets would offer financial support to relief aid agencies in China.

"On behalf of the Houston Rockets, I want to offer my deepest sympathies to all who have been affected by the earthquake in Sichuan, China on Monday," Alexander said. "Over the past several years, we have formed a strong bond with our friends in China and it is very difficult to see them struggling through this tragic event. We have already begun the process of reaching out to relief aid agencies and have pledged our financial support to assisting those who have been devastated by this catastrophic event. I know Yao Ming is fully committed to helping the people of China recover from this horrific experience and I will help him in any way I can."

Rockets fans can assist with the recovery in China by sending donations to the Red Cross. Donations are being accepted online at http://www.redcross.org/news/in/pro...Earthquake.html.
