If healthy next year, will the Rockets make the finals?

Rockets
PG Rafer/Jackson
SG T-mac/Head/Brooks
SF Battier/Harris/Novak
PF Scola/Hayes/Landry
C Yao/Deke

Rafer began to play really well at the end of last season and Scola stepped up as well. Not to mention the bench that the Rockets have as well

It a little too early to predict. Wait till after the draft, and trades and free agency.

Oh ye of little faith.

Have you not yet attended the First Church Of Morey? Services are held annually, on June 26th. Penitents and parishioners form a line and carry red candles in concentric circles around the Toyota Center. They chant. They sing. Some of them *ahem* drink vodka and Big Red Cola until they pass out in a state of religious ecstasy.

In Morey we trust, baby.

Didn't you get the memo?

The only thing we're winning next year is another first round exit unless three things happen:

1) Our stars can stay healthy
2) We get a backup 2
3) The heavens align

Not with that team as Max said.

Too many flaws. Only two reliable scorers....you can't win like that. Alston's shooting has to go way way up. I mean teams just leave him like they leave Rondo and we have no "Eddie House" behind him who can just knock shots down.

People on this board continue to overrate this team. We are not there yet. We need trades to solidify the bench and the front line.

Ixnay, our front line is fine and Scola's a fairly reliable scorer.

Didn't you read the post about The First Church Of Morey?

My point is 'the heavens will align'. We have God/Morey (synonyms, in reality) on our side. St. Morey will wave his magic wand and *poof* Yao will be bullet-proof. St. Morey will wave his magic wand and *poof* T-Mac will grow a pair. Then he'll wave his magic wand *poof*, and Karl Rove will be in a Texas state prison. (Darrington, preferably.)

In Morey We Trust.

You don't know that?

IF Yao stays healthy, we might have a chance. Oh, that McGrady too.

EDIT: yes, another if scenario... will these two ever stay healthy? Can they play at least 80% of the regular season games, and NOT MISS THE PLAYOFFS?

No chance and I'm tired of Rocket fans posting their fantasies on the general board as soon as they realize what could be done *if* healthy.

True.

I am also sick of Rockets fans defending Yao and McGrady while blaming the role players. Role players are who they are, and you can't always count on them. Greatness is accomplished when your superstars elevate their games and make their teammates better.

Yeah, I read that post. I also read your other one about a certain mantra that must be repeated.

So now heed your own advice and repeat after me, "There's no place like home. There's no place like home."

I don't get it.

Where's the punchline?

The barman sees the guy and offers him a bottle of bud on the house. As he gives the guy the bud, the barman asks, "Could you tell me how you stop the duck from dancing on top of the box?"

The man replies, "Oh that's easy, you just take the hot coals out."

OK. Now you're just making fun of me.

That ain't Christian.

(Was there a point to your post? I'm sincerely dumbfounded.)

I'm in a very goofy mood as leftover from my trip to the emergency room last night (severely sprained, making sure not broken, ankle - and for whatever sick reason, I find trips to the ER incredibly fun) and was supplying the punchline? Try living Rear Window for a while, you should begin to notice that you're developing severe ADD by day's end.

with the team we have now, if tmac and yao both stay healthy and play the best ball of the careers, we still wont make the finals. if we trade battier for a 3rd star, then yes, we would make the finals

you just said Battier isn't as good as Odom in the other thread
then how can you trade him for a star?

Even if what Max said wasn't right, the finals demonstrated yet again this year: Defense Wins Championships.

Battier = defense.
Odom = offense.
Rockets + offense - defense = Suns.

Seems like a winning formula, it sure worked for Phoenix the past 4 years. AGAIN, we need to add a backup swing/point without getting rid of a major rotation player. For the 500th time of the majillion it's going to have to be said this offseason, we have assets other than Battier and Scola to do that with.

I'd really like to understand the mechanism triggering in my head that makes me enjoy banging it against walls like this.
