Would you sign artest over landry?
I came across this story on hoopsworld. I know some of you are big Artest supporters:
I've talked about this before, and it was kind of a no-brainer when the Dallas Mavericks hired Rick Carlisle as their new head coach. Carlisle took a few minutes out of his introductory press conference to all but invite Artest to join him in Dallas. He sang Artest's praises for a full 2-3 minutes and talked about how much he loved working with him Indiana and how much he would love the opportunity to work with him again.
Of course, at that time Artest was saying he didn't plan to opt out of the final year of his contract with the Kings, and besides that the Mavericks can't afford to make him much of an offer.
Well, yesterday all of that changed. Now Artest is saying he may opt out after all, and that he would take less money to play for a contender. Of course, the Mavericks aren't contenders any more - not even on paper. The question for Artest and Carlisle becomes: are the Mavs, with Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Kidd, contenders if you add Artest to the mix at a bargain price?
Frankly, it will take a lot of loyalty on the part of Artest for him to attempt to be the savior of the Mavericks, who have truly backed themselves into a corner by trading for Kidd's contract. They have little money to spend and as many as eight roster spots to fill. Their biggest competition for Artest's services will likely be the other two Texas teams. Artest also played for Rick Adelman in Sacramento, and Adelman has a roster that could truly be Artest away from a championship. Meanwhile the San Antonio Spurs have cap space and roster spots to fill, and if Popovich is willing to take a chance on some of the extra-curricular issues that come with Artest.
Carlisle will certainly make his pitch, but if Artest does indeed opt out of his contract don't be surprised to see him wind up with one of the other Texas Triangle teams.
So the question is, if Artest became available do you offer him the full MLE or use part of it to resign Landry and try to get another FA with the remainder?

Re: Would you sign artest over landry?
id be really pissed off if Ron opted out. Cause Dallas would emerge as the favorites along with the Lakers. Staying close in California or joining Carlisle?
Either ways it just makes a contender even stronger, and makes a good team ...great. Artest is what both teams really need, and he needs to stay in his contract, so he can come here via trade.
But would I go for Ron over Carl? Nah. I'm going for Ron at the expense of others, not Carl. Carl is here to stay.

Thanks, MaxRider.
You just saved me 10 minutes of simultaneously typing and cursing. Thusly, you just saved me from another 3 day banning.
You're swell.

I'd take Landry over Artest 99 times out of 100 (I'm thinking like Isaiah that last time and don't concern myself with team chemistry).
As Max said, don't read anything that Hoopsworld prints.

What's up with so many ballboys popping up out of nowhere to make ridiculous threads lately?

I'd have more posts if I wasn't so intent on writing books.
Also Jove, it's a proven fact that IQ increases with post count. Your initial intelligence level is determined by a 12d6 roll upon registration, before which IQ is unable to surpass 47. That's why Max wakes up every morning with a supermodel at his beach house in Costa Rica before inventing the flying car and holding counsel with NATO.
(p.s. No I don't play D&D [suuuuuure], but I have a bunch of friends that do. Played a lot of BattleTech as a kid and like buying board games at Nan's, too)

Really? You're writing books? Pray tell.
My excuse for not posting so much is that... I don't feel like posting so much. I figure people on here get enough of my nonsensical posts as it is.

You failed the saving throw on that comeback. As a result, you now have a -1 bonus on all gold collected.

My average post word count has almost got to be over 200 (even with dinkers like this included, and yes this is a disappointing response).

Re: Would you sign artest over landry?
Post counts are overrated. When I first joined RealGM, I'd say about 50% of my posts were garbage posts. Today, I try to post with more substance and it's been almost two years since I first tried to do that. If you subtract all my junk posts and my
posts, I think it comes down to about 9000 posts.
Maxrider is a poet. He writes Haiku!
Back to the topic. Ron Artest has a player's option but if he decides to opt out of his contract, then we won't be able to sign him. Dude wants to play in New York and wants about 10 million/year; something that we can't offer.
The only option to acquiring Ron Ron is if he picks up his player's option and gets traded to Houston. But then again, he becomes a free agent in the following year.
We shouldn't even consider getting Artest at this point. Instead, we should re-sign Landry.
