Ok, ok, ok, SLIGHT apologies to Chris Wallace

According to the L.A. Times, Odom may be the most likely player to be dealt this offseason. Odom, who will make $14 million next season, was in their package for Gasol until Memphis owner Michael Heisley took him out, asking for lesser players who afforded more cap relief.

I wonder how often GMs aren't really bad GMs, just put in a spot where they are incapable of succeeding, not that I don't still think Chris Wallace is a bad GM. I know Kevin McHale has run into this issue in Minnesota a lot as well. Go figure.

Slight apologies. And Gasol also showed how soft he truly is in these playoffs. Struggled against SA and Boston..two tough defensive teams.

As inconsistent as Odom is, I was wondering how he could bring some of that questionable passion and lackadaisical play to Houston. Then I realized that the only way he'd end up in HOU was if we offered Battier and Jackson.

Nevermind. The LAL can keep Odom.

Not to mention that not too many teams want to trade major pieces right after a finals run. He's no doubt causing more problems with management than is seen on the court.

Chris Wallace is still a moron. Odom's contract was expiring.

Moofs:

Take a deep breath and repeat the following:

"There's no place like home. There's no place like home"

Do it. I'm not kidding. Because if you don't, you (like I did before you) will continue on that same doomed road, toward expecting every NBA GM to go out and fetch A- talent on a D+ budget. That road is paved with the broken dreams of basketball fans who came before you - like Auschwitz. That road is a vile temptress. She collects souls under her bed in a Mason jar, much as the 4'9" kid who thinks he can get to the NBA because he's "wicked fast".

Take a deep breath, repeat the above mantra, and resolve in your heart of hearts to never again be seduced by the exception.

We here in the real world must live, inversely and sadly, by the rule.

Haha nah. I've no doubt it's common, was only wondering about the degree. Even with D+ budget considerations, you've got to admit that trade was a direct bazooka shell to the face of Memphis fan everywhere. Trust me, I don't expect A- talent. A naive idealist I may sometimes be, but not that bad. By the same note, a B+ package for an F-- one shouldn't be expected either, budget considerations or no. (Feels like I just finished grading a bunch of high school English papers.)

Looks like he couldn't get the picks he needed elsewhere, so out of necessity he went with the cheapest expiring contract and whatever else he could get.

I can promise you that if you go over to the Laker board right now and offer Battier and Jackson for Odom that more people than not will take that deal. Put a poll up if you don't believe me. I have been on that board a lot and Battier is a guy that many of the posters there have targeted as somebody that they feel could put them over the hump. On the trade board, Battier is a guy that most teams are trying to trade for. If he is overrated, it isn't just on this board.

Give Battier for Odom to them is give them the championship. Fisher-Kobe-Battier-Gasol-Bynum, it's the piece they need! don't trade shane!

It's refreshing to hear from people who understand the big picture.

Don't waste your time explaining why we shouldn't trade Battier, especially for friggin Lamar Odom. Mcgrady2Head thinks Battier is overrated, and is attracted by "big-name" players. Odom is a very talented player, but $14 mil/year for 14 ppg and 10 rpg? No thanks. I always questioned how legitimate the whole "Odom lacks passion" argument was, but I think it's justified. Lamar can't shoot 3s, he can't defend as well as Battier, he's nowhere near as good of a glue guy, his basketball IQ is inferior to Shane's, and his contract is much worse. No thanks to Lamar Odom.

Yup, there are some reasons why Laker fans call Odom...Odumb. Lakers would do Battier in a heart beat, I'd love to have Odom on this team hes a very skilled player, but since we can't play him at SF, there is no way to get him IMO without giving up Battier.

And we would need Shane's contract for salary purposes.

All around it's a bad deal for HOU.

Exactly. Which is why we should just keep Shane.

People do overrate Battier, much like a lot of other players on this team, it's the homer in them. That said Odom is dumb as a doorknob and his contract is atrocious and LA has made it no secret they want to jettison him and his contract. Battier and Jackson's expiring are probably HOU's biggest trade assests and we could get so much better.

And was Bowen overrated before he got old? Did the Pistons not really need Prince? Did the Heat or Celtics need Posey? What about the Bulls with Pippen/Rodman/Harpring? The Lakers with Horry/Fox? Did we need Maxwell or Elie?

I'd say it's hard to overrate guys like that (defensive sg/sfs with range shooting, Rodman excluded on some details but included because of the Bulls system) considering that championships just seem to follow them for some wacky reason. That's probably just the homer in me talking though. The fact that pretty much every championship team for at least the last 17+ years have had guys like that on them is bound to be a fluke.

The Lakers want the one guy, Battier, that can punk Kobe on defense. Battier punked Kobe so bad in that 22nd streak win over the Lakers. It's no one the wiser they'd rather have Battier on their side. lol.. Plus if they were to play the Celts again next year they could use Battier to punk Pierce, Allen.... They know it. We need to keep Battier at all costs.
