Drexler trashed T-Mac a little

Our games are similar in the fact that we're very talented and make it look easy. But there are certain aspects of our games that I think are completely different. Because I was more of a passer, a penetrator, making my teammates better. I really worked on efficiency, making the game easier so we could rest and get ready for the next game. So those are my thoughts, and Tracy is more of a scorer, he's gonna score in bunches. I coulda done that, but I was really focused on making my teammates better and making the game easier.

BTW, Drexler has a career PER of 21.1. McGrady is a couple of notches better, at 23.4. Drexler averaged 5.9 assists per 36 minutes, McGrady is at 4.8.

2008 McGrady makes his teammates better and it's not that good as a scorer, i'am surprised he said this when he comments Rockets games on Tv and he watch every single game.

He doesn't like T-Mac's game. It's pretty clear when you listen to him call Rockets games.

Can I propose (soberly) the following? :

Clyde is a good man. His wife is a fantastic woman. Together, they're great people.

But maybe - just maybe - Clyde needs to get his college degree and cayente his clucker for a while.

Clyde,

You no longer glide. Now you putter. It's the law of the jungle. Not your fault. So go putter in private, please. Learn a lesson from MJ. Your time has passed and that reality sucks, to be sure. But for now, swallow that bitter pill, shut up, and don't embarrass yourself or your lovely wife.

Go quietly into that good night.

Love,
Ribalding

Not a fan of PER, never have been. Drexler says some stupid things as a broadcaster sometimes but he's right here. You may be able to make the case that T-Mac will continue to improve as a passer (I think he's already shown to be outstanding in that regard) but he's not touching Drexler's efficiency. That's the one thing about T-Mac I can't stand (well, that and his lazy D times), that his efficiency hasn't improved (actually, it's gotten worse with age) over the years, even with better teammates.

I think Drexler is using efficiency in the wrong context. McGrady's criticized because of his abysmal shooting rather than not having an all-around game. T-Mac will be considered an efficient player if his true shooting % , a stat influenced by FG% and FT%, is as good as Drexler's.

BTW, just like other players who came out of high school, McGrady's career numbers don't give a correct representation of his skills. It took McGrady more than 2 years to establish himself as one of the best players in this league, whereas for Clyde, who came out of college, took him only a year to get himself going in the NBA. If you look some of the more relevant stats, there are definitely certain aspects that McGrady does better than Drexler.

Passing (AST%) - While McGrady's career APG is lower than Drexler's (I also know that Clyde averaged 8 APG at one point in his career their career), yearly AST% indicates that McGrady is a slightly better passer. Slight edge to McGrady.

Rebounding (TRB%) - Their career rebounding rates show that they are comparable rebounders. McGrady, who demonstrated an all-around game early in his career, notched 14.6% at one point. Meanwhile Clyde never came close to this number. Push / slight edge to McGrady.

Other numbers also indicate that McGrady has better handles (TOV%) and a better shotblocker (BLK%). I think aside from scoring efficiency and stealing, McGrady does everything else slightly better.

Clyde is right in the sense that T-Mac too often settles for a bad shot early in the shot clock. Remember, our streak started when McGrady was hurt. Why? We could run the damn offense.

All T-Mac wanted to do early in the season was dominate the ball and take dumb shots.

Take the first two-three seasons out of Toronto, and McGrady's assist numbers are right up there. McGrady had to work his way up, while Clyde after 1 year as a bench player was right there making his debut.

Drexler's numbers are after 15 seasons so of course the numbers will be lower when he played all those years in decline not to mention alongside Hakeem, Barkely, Pippen the last couple of years.

you can bring up any stats explaining so many number of ways that mcgrady is better then drexler...

however... i would take prime drexler over prime mcgrady in a heartbeat...

ill take the shooting guard who plays with passion and has two rings... rather than the guard who cant get out the first round and lost 19 straight games and gave up on his team anyday...

Clyde is a top 30 player of all time at best. Of course people would take Prime Clyde over Prime Tmac. Prime Clyde averaged 25pts, 7ast, 7reb, 2 stl, those are LBJ numbers, while taking his team to the finals multiple times, but losing only to the bad boy pistons and Jordan's Bulls.

One man's talent shouldn't be evaluated based on the talent surrounding him.

^ + 1, and then when you put it that way, McGrady has NEVER EVER had the talent Clyde has had.

Maybe this will encourage T-MAC to play better next season. Eh, T-MAC probably wouldn't care. :-?

I hope this encourages T-Mac to play better for the next 2 years. After these 2 seasons he will be a free-agent, he will be playing for a long-term contract so I expect him to play hard these 2 years. With that in mind, i hope we advance pass the th 2nd round these 2 years. :D

See that's the thing. I love when the media and ex-players bash McGrady. Dude needs a fire that can ignite his game.

I don't think there's any fire left. :(

As to the topic, I don't think Clyde really meant it in a bad way (we all know he has a horrible way with words, he basically kills the FSN Houston brodcast), but yeah it was a little cheap shot.
