[Board Project] Top 20 All-Time Rockets (Spot #13)

Post#1 » by TMU » Wed Jun 25, 2008 6:36 pm

3 IMPORTANT RULES!!!
1. Members must consider former/current Rockets players only. Hence, PLEASE CONSIDER THEIR YEARS WITH THE ROCKETS ONLY!!!

2. We'll have a field of 5 candidates for each voting. Each member must vote one player from the field that is worthy to be in the Top 20 list.

3. Additionally, each member must nominate a candidate he/she feels should be added to the field for the subsequent ranking. This nomination is to replace the winner in the following vote.
(In each thread, we have a list of 5 candidates where one will be chosen as the winner. Since in every thread, we'll be voting one player off the list, it leaves only 4 candidates. Hence, the nomination is to include one player and make it a 5 candidate list for the next round.)

All former/current Rockets players are found here:

Damn...you read my mind. That is the combo I had in mind before I even entered the thread. I would have voted Newlin last thread for what it's worth. I thought I voted but apparently didn't. Wouldn't have mattered anyways as Reid would have still won 7/12.

I don't see how Newlin is a better candidate than Kenny Smith.

We're splitting hairs at this point. You could make a sound argument for Kenny no doubt, but I think that I may even vote for Mad Max before Kenny. I think from memory of watching actual games that Vernon brought some intangibles to the game that don't come through in his stats. He had a swagger and attitude that I think was more important to helping develop the identity of that team than Kenny's superior field goal percentages. Just my opinion. And let us not even bring defense into the conversation. Kenny would give Novak a run for his money as worst defender if he were on the current squad while Vernon was pesky and known to give even the Michael Jordans of the world a little bit of his own personal brand of hell. Plus Kenny was kinda soft. Lucky for him we had Sam to come in and relieve him when things were falling apart.

When will we nominate guys like Eddie Johnson, Charles Jones, and Matt Bullard?

[No disrespect to Eddie Johnson for including him in that list, but we got him at the ripe old age of 38 (or so). He was an excellent player when he was younger.]

Eddie Johnson wasn't too bad with us, really. I started wanting to nominate Jonesy 5 rounds ago.

Vote : Newlin

Nominate : Somebody else nobody under 40 has ever heard of. (Take your pick. I don't care at this point. We're 10 days away from voting for Chuck Hayes. This is a pity.)
