Who will be on the roster?

Post#1 » by cbs134679 » Sun Jun 29, 2008 6:11 am

Knowing that theres only 15 roster spots, theres 18 guys that could potentially be in a rockets uniform at the beggining of the season, unless morey makes another move packaging multiple players for that 3rd scorer, who do you think will be cut before the season starts?

Will Deke come back for another season? Word is Boston are lining either him up or Zo.

Harris is immediately expendable with the draft of Dorsey. Woods too, but not much so. He is a 7-footer too, something we need.

There has to be another trade, involving some of our bench players. We have expirings galore to get something done.

Harris, Woods and Novak are the weakest links on that depth chart, so I wouldn't particularly miss any of them. I would hope that this isn't the roster we have going into next season, but I'll at least be somewhat happy if we re-sign Green. It's way too early to give up on him, and I still believe he can thrive in his hometown if we keep bringing him along. I would like our young core a lot more if Gerald was included, as I feel like he's the only one with true 'star' potential.

Harris and Woods are goners.
And I doubt Gerlad will be on the roster , he is a free agent now and will have a much better chance at making someone else's team.

One of the Pfs and one of the Pgs will be gone before the Season starts. Woods is back only if Deke doesn't re-up,and I don't see Deke moving his family for one yr. If he plays,it's for Rockets. Harris is easily disposable 15nth man.

The simplest option is Landry asks for more than Rockets are willing to pay and they let him walk. They dump Francis on a Memphis,Minn,Philly ala Phoenix and throw in cash to buy him out and an 09 draft pick-prob First as Suns set market.) Use the salary saved to get a SF/PF combo like Walter Hermann and go bargain shopping for a wing-Quinton Ross,Devin Brown. Or if Lux Tax is higher than predicted make a full MLE offer to JR Smith,Josh Childress. Make a $3-4mil offer to CJ Miles,Dorrell Wright and see if other team matches.

Rockets best hope is Landry takes LLE and they can package Francis,Hayes and an 09 pick for a vet wing. Sac's John Salmon,Portland's Martel Webster.

Some combo of above is most likely,w/Francis being dumped or bought out. Hayes or Landry(sign-n-trade)used to get a SG/SF. Hayes for JJ Reddick would be a salary match and an almost horrifying needs match.

These players will be on Opening Roster:
Yao,Dorsey,Motumbo
Scola
Battier,Greene
McGrady
Alston,Jackson,Brooks

Head and Novak are prob 75% certain of being on roster and Harris is 50/50. Either Hayes or Landry will make it.

Best guess is:
Yao,Dorsey,Motumbo
Scola,Hayes,Novak
Battier,Greene ,Harris
McGrady,?,Head
Alston,Jackson,Brooks

i didnt say i hated any of those players. im talking about just basketball. they all suck. we wont win with them. all those players i said that are bad, was i wrong? do people actually think they are good?
luther head averaged 1 point per game in the playoffs....
aaron brooks is a midget....
i dont even know who loren woods is....
gerald green didnt play one minute, even when he was on the t'wolves lol...
chuck hayes cant make a shot past 6 feet.....
we had the worst pf rotation in the league 2 years ago with chuck hayes and juwan howarad, and Steve Novak STILL couldnt get into a game....
battier is going to take this team to the promise land? who did he shutdown in the playoffs the past 2 years?....

luther head averaged 1 point per game in the playoffs.... ok.. I want him gone as well
aaron brooks is a midget.... So are Allen Iverson and Chris Paul. Brooks is nowhere near the talent of those two but.... midgets are the devil right?
i dont even know who loren woods is.... someone who throughly owned and absolutely dominated Yao Ming in practice.... according to Pryuen from clutchfans
gerald green didnt play one minute, even when he was on the t'wolves lol... True, i dont see us resigning him
chuck hayes cant make a shot past 6 feet..... Ok... i have a feeling he's gone as well. Hello Dorsey
we had the worst pf rotation in the league 2 years ago with chuck hayes and juwan howarad, and Steve Novak STILL couldnt get into a game.... It took Jason Kaponon 3 years to get mins in the NBA, i have faith in Supernovak
battier is going to take this team to the promise land? who did he shutdown in the playoffs the past 2 years?.... which SG or SF torched us in the playoffs? None.... So in essence, Battier shut all of them down.

-Head actually averaged less than 1 point per game in the playoffs, but whatever.
-Aaron Brooks was impressive in stretches, and believe it or not, midgets actually can survive in this league. Just look at Earl Boykins for confirmation.
-Loren Woods is an oaf. Luckily for him, he's a tall oaf so he gets a contract.
-Gerald Green played 3 minutes in a Rockets uniform and absolutely dominated. 6 points on 100% shooting!
-Chuck Hayes has reportedly developed a devastating jumper, and can even hit the three with consistency now. Even though he still has that same hitch in his shot, and it takes him about ten seconds to release it, he'll be deadly next year.
-Novak's a spot shooter, and played his part. If you were expecting Peja, then I apologize.
-Battier against the Jazz isn't a very good example of his defensive capabilities. They don't have any star swingman who the offense is run through. About 90% of the other teams in the league do, however, making him a necessary evil.

They're role players. They play their role, and every team has them. You aren't going to have a bench of McGradys.

Apart from what everyone else has said, I'm amazed that you're choosing to keep Francis over Alston. Wow.

If this were 2001, I'd agree with you, but right now? Let me say it again. Wow. :o

to be honest, alston is the one player on that list i actually do like alot as a player. the only reason he isnt on my keeper list is becauase id be interested to see what we can get if we throw in him and bobby jackson's expiring. If i had to add one more player to my keeper list, it would have been alston. the reason francis isnt on the trade list is because he makes like 2 mill. hes too good of a bargain if he comes to camp in shape, where as alston makes about 5 mill. with all those assets, i dont think its out of the question to think we could land 2 VERY good players.

Return to Houston Rockets
