Rockets to go after Brent Barry

Post#1 » by Tomas_11 » Tue Jul 1, 2008 3:07 am

I was just watching fox 26 and Marc Berman was discussing how the front office will be pursuing Brent Barry as well as Robert Horry if he isn't going to be resigned by the Spurs. Could Barry be our veteran swingman off the bench?

Barry is a good stabilizing presence off the bench to spell both Rafer and T-Mac.

Getting him is a guarantee that Jackson is gone.

EDIT: We should be clear about one thing, though. The Rockets are not trying to get him to be our "savior" - we're getting him for his veteran leadership and to fill in a couple of holes in the roster.

Lol. This is part of my deal. We'll never have money to do anything free agency wise as long as we have Tracy and Yao so why not consolidate some money and get some bang for the proverbial buck? Morey has proven he ain't bad finding young talent.

Yeah a vet off the bench is fine but my Barry boat sailed last Spring when he returned to the Spurs and overlooked our interest. Wasn't the first time so let that be the last. I'd rather see Greene get a few spot minutes here or there.

Morey's making it pretty obvious who's available.
Dorsey replaces Hayes.
Leunen could replace Novak.
Barry would replace Head.

Maaaaaaaaaaarty can't replace Novak in anything; he's not making the roster.

Steve has the token white guy role locked up.

We would have got Barry last season had Yao not gone down.. but JB got our back and hopefully he helps us secure him this time..
Only reason I would want Horry is because he has won everywhere he has been, even though he has won here already..
But I think we sign barry and try a S&T for Maggette

Sounds reasonable.

I still wouldn't go after Horry, though. No room on the roster.

Rockets have exercised the team option on Novak. Novak will be on the roster this season unless he is traded during the season with BJax.

In the same Chron article, rockets is playing some scare tactic on Landry's knee problem. They probably want to deter other team from making a big offer to Landry.

If Rockets sign Brent Barry, then they need to trade some of their bench players since they don't have any roster spot available for Brent.

Players under contract or 99% would be under contract:

1. Yao
2. Tmac
3. Battier
4. Alston
5. Scola
6. Landry
7. Deke
8. Brooks
9. BJax
10. Francis
11. Head
12. Hayes
13. Novak
14. Greene (guarantee as 1st round pick)
15. Dorsey (will be stupid not to sign him after making so much effort to get him)

Hey,it was going to be one page, maybe a little BBQ sauce, perhaps a dab of mustard and somebody at work laughing their a** off trying to take a picture.

Seriously tho,the knee issue was one reason why I didn't-and don't-think he'll get a big offer. But is the article intended to lay the groundwork for why fan fav Landry isn't re-signed?

All that matters is that Landry is resigned and Jackson is gone then we go on from there

I wouldn't mind Barry even at this age, he can play the point forward and a dead eye shooter with playoff experience. Big improvement over Head.

Barry will be a nice addition to help us win more till the deadline and thats where I see us making the big splash.
I am not worried about his offense , but how is his defense in such an advanaced age?
Will he be a liability?

It's great that we can have Barry on this team, remember this year's game 5? He almost single handed beat Lakers with his touches.

I'll take him for the LLE, which we now have.

It's a low-risk, good move.

But we do have to make a trade somewhere along the line.

Right now best case scenerio imo is sign Barry with LLE or vet's minimum , re-sign Landry.
Sign a guy like Matt Barnes with the rest of the MLE.

Trade for a 3rd scorer before the deadline.

You don't think Barry will give him a run for his money? He's definitely got the gangly doofus look down pat.

I don't care how old either of them is, them Barry boys can ball. Doesn't take much to be able to shoot 3's and pass well either, and he'd be guarding reserves (at least as well as Head can)

Hopefully Head is gone, happy if Hayes has been upgraded too.
Morey 2020.

Q:How are they experts when they're always wrong?
A:Ask a stock market analyst or your financial advisor
