Clippers Acquire Camby

According to the wiretap: Clippers trade a 2nd round pick to the Nuggets in exchange for Marcus Camby.
Why did the Clippers do this? I don't understand why they traded for Camby when they already have Kaman. In my opinion, they need someone who can post up on the block and put the ball in the hoop. Maybe they felt like something had to be done quick to keep Baron interested? I'm not a big fan of this move for either side.

This appears to be a strange trade since Camby's contract is awful and because the Clippers already have Kaman as their center. Perhaps they're moving Camby to PF. When Camby was with the Knicks, he was a fine player at the PF spot. However, he has lost a lot of athleticism and quickness since his nagging knee and ankle injuries.
I don't understand this from Denver's perspective either. Are they going to rebuild? If so, one of Iverson/Melo must be traded and they need to start fresh. Nuggets fans must be kicking themselves for only getting a 2nd round pick in return.
We can only watch and see how this plays out.

Maybe the Clips are planning on pulling off a blockbuster involving Kaman? If that's the case though, I think it's a bad idea because of how injury prone Camby is.

Yeah, bad idea indeed. If they do this, it wouldn't make any sense to me. Why trade Kaman who has proved the rest of the league that he belongs in the category of best centers in NBA. Dude has shown a lot of progress over the past two years, and has played considerably well even without Elton Brand in the Clippers lineup. I think Kaman is the least likely player to be traded off the team.

According to Clips fans on the GB, it seems like Dunleavy intends on running Camby at the 4.
Kaman
Camby
Thornton
Gordon
B Diddy
Seems like a pretty good starting lineup to me, but I'll remain skeptical.

Yea the Clips probably want Kaman to take over offensively for Brand (highly unlikely he can though). That starting lineup IMO is weak. Thornton is still raw. Davis is a good player when he is surrounded by other good players...Camby is too slow to play PF..he is gonna be in a lot of foul trouble...well at least it'll either be him or Kaman.
They are trying their best to save face from the Brand situation. This was a desperate move and I maintain that Denver knows something about Camby that we don't b/c it seems they couldn't wait to get him off their hands.

i saw on espn that denver saved $40M and avoided the luxury tax with this move. i dont think camby can play the 4 either. he only has 2 more years on his contract and, unless he's takes a pay cut, will not be re-signed. i think both teams actually get worse with this deal.

Yeah, I can't make heads or tails of it.

The Nuggets received a $10 million trade exception which means they're allowed to trade above or below the limit by $10 mil.

How did the Clippers get the exception rather than the Nuggets? Got a source?

Yeah weird trade for both teams, seems more a reactionary move by the Clippers with Brand leaving (maybe a Camby for Randolph trade brewing?). And the Nuggets really look like they're giving up on Melo/AI combination, selling the pick, giving up Camby for essentially nothing when they'd still be over the cap.
I guess I shouldn't be complaining about us making a move since if it's these type of moves we'd make, I'd rather not haha.

A million tacos says Camby doesn't stay long and will just be shipped to Atlanta for one of the Josh's.
I feel like speculating on this fine Wednesday morning.

I think that the Nugs should have took the Nets offer (Sean Williams, Josh Boone, Marcus Williams, a take your pick kind of scenario) to start off a rebuild, and then traded Iverson and/or KMart for Cap Space. or maybe they will deal iverson for young players. thats just me.

Please, let's discuss more on the trades of 2 teams not making the playoffs next year or in the near future.
