T-mac and Yao's minutes should be reduced to around 33-35 mpg for next year. Considering they have Artest now that 3rd scoring option, this will still enable the team to give both Artest and Battier 30+ mpg along with Scola and those 3 could be the needed firepower and support that T-mac and Yao need.
This also will cut down on some of T-mac's and Yao's injuries and keep them fresh for the playoffs.
What do you think?

I don't know thats tough to say especially with the fact that both have to do a lot with our scoring, and closing games out. I don't think McGrady has the problems playing the mins, he has problems with minor injuries since his back problems have basically been healed. But that could be considered for Yao, since the past season he has failed to play over 60 games a season.

Until the team really gels and finds its identity with Artest in the mix, I think they should play regular minutes. But if we develop the ability to have teams down and out before the 4th quarter (like Boston was doing this past season), then of course I'd be all for reducing their minutes.

I'd agree, look at the Spurs, Duncan hasn't played over 36 minutes since 2003. Ginobil and Parker haven't played 36 minutes ever in their career. It help prevents injuries and gives us fresher legs going into the playoffs. We have a cent amount of depth, why not use it.
Alston (36)--Barry (12)-Francis
McGrady (34)-- Battier (6)--Barry (8)
Artest (24)--Battier (24)
Scola (16)--Landry (24)--Artest (8)
Yao (33)--Scola (15)--Dorsey
Can change depending on how much Brooks develops or Francis recovers, or even what happens the rest of the off-season, especially if Landry bolts, but that'd be a solid rotation IMO.
I'd like to use more than just 8 people, but I doubt we do more than an 8/9 man rotation with Adelman anyway.

you guys are thinking way ahead
let's wait until preseason before doing your depth chart prediction
don't forget 95% predicted Alston out of the rotation last year

Luther Head is out of the rotation? I think he'd be a good SG to pair up with Brent Barry as he can guard the teams bigger guard while Luther takes the smaller of the two.

Actually Francis, if healthy, would be a good SG to pair up with Barry off the bench.

It doesn't make sense to limit the minutes right out the gate. Just play to win. Period. You can start to worry about limiting minutes when you secure a playoff spot and/or playoff seed you want.

Re: T-mac and Yao's mpg should be reduced to 33-35 mpg ....
I think McGrady's mins are fine. I don't really see him running out of gas down the stretch of games. His load is the problem. Lighten what he has to do for his team to win and he'll be fine. The Artest trade should allow McGrady to do whatever he wishes on a given night now. He'll probably end up averaging around 20 points and about 6+ assists.
Yao is the problem. He has to play less minutes in the first half of the season. You can't throw him out there and play him 35+ like he was before he got injured. I think around 28-30 mins a game is good for him. Use him to start the game strong and finish it strong. Rest him in between. Which is why its very important for Scola to be stronger around the basket b/c we gonna playing a lot of small ball with him at center.

I think playing those minutes will make Mcgrady and Yao more efficient and make them less likely to get injured.
