Racist Spanish Basketball Ad

Ahead of the Beijing Olympics, Spain's basketball team posed for a promotion for a courier company that sponsors the club. In the photo, the team appears to make "slit-eyed gestures," mocking the appearance of those in the Asian host country.

What's up with Spain... Even black soccer players get monkey and banana chants. And now they're going to insult the Chinese host. I lost respect for the whole spanish basketball team. It goes against what Olympics try to represent

WTF are Gasol and the other NBA players thinking?!?

I hope Stern fines them for this. It's more detrimental to the game than some jackass beating his wife or smoking weed.

but ya thats the stupidest thing ive ever seen a team do. Spacialy a team that represents a country. Very sad....just another reason why Yao should take it out on the Lakers and Gasol next year

The media washed colonial mentality makes some black people accept this type of racism. Pau Gasol always seemed somewhat of a closet racist that resents having to play with black players IMO. Then you have a guy like Kobe Bryant who marries a Latina and boasts about his ability to speak Italian and Spanish as if it made him less black and more European. He constantly tries to speak these languages and I wonder if he would have played for his beloved Italy instead of USA if given the chance? Anyways the Eurocentric mentality makes racism acceptible.

Let's not forget the forefather's of these Spanish players were Conquistadors that destroyed the culture and landscape of the South American Continent for 500 years. It's no wonder they are the way they are.

Is this such a big deal? This was in a Spanish Ad in Spain.Next thing you guys are going to say is we should protest them. Who cares what they do in there own country. If that is how they do buisness in Spain who cares. It has no bearing on how we do things in this country. They can be as narrow minded as they want as long as they keep it in their counrty.

It doesn't matter where they did it at, its still counted as racist.

If Utah were to make an ad IN Utah using the N Word it would STILL BE RACIST. even though Utah has the least amount of black people.

Well, it's no doubt a racist ad. I don't understand how anyone who participated in this thought it would be a good idea, but regardless, if that's all the Spanish basketball team has on the PRC team, then I don't think they are going to have an easy time medalling.

First they ignore you,
then they laugh at you,
then they join you.

Spain is just a little bit more noisy in the second stage. They'll come around just like everyone else who has already.
