Like I said in the NBA Board. How is Battier overrated, he is one of the top defensive players in the NBA. I am assuming they mean his offense, but even that isnt overrated. And How is Yao overrated? He is the 2nd best center in the NBA.

Haha, seems like everyone is complaining about the list on their site to. That is a terrible list, he talks only about stats, and nothing on team impact, and value. The guy is a failure, just like his list.

Wow, this guy is really, really bad. Of all the players on our team, you could definitely make a case for Tmac being overrated. But he isn't even on the list! Battier and Yao are both largely underrated players, and even if you don't agree with that, the #1 and #3 MOST OVERRATED players in the league?!

Marion perhaps deserves to be on this list. Horry probably belongs there as well. Where the hell is Shaq? Lamar Odom? Ben Gordon/Ben Wallace? LaMarcus Aldridge? Jason Kidd? Bruce Bowen?

At least Battier and Yao are competent on both ends. Almost everyone on the list above is either really bad at offense or defense, or in some cases both. In LMA's case, he's just incredibly overrated for his production.

If he wants to talk about players getting by solely on the offensive (Yao) or defensive (Battier) end, I ask again, where the hell are Shaq and Bowen? Shaq's defense is now nonexistant, Bowen was never an offensive player but even his defense isn't all world anymore, yet he's still touted as one of the top defenders in the league. Shaq just blows.

Argh.

This guy should watch the calls against Yao before he calls the fouls against Yao avoidable and nobody calls Bruce Bowen overrated and Battier is an upgrade over him and unlike Bowen he isn't a dirty player. I wonder if this guy actually watches NBA games or just highlights on youtube :o

Who knows if they're overrated, but the guy doesn't even provide any reasons to why he thinks they're overrated. Poor article.

I can somewhat see his point about Yao. But he should also point out that if we had Yao in last year's first round series we probably would have won it. He says we got better without Yao...well to a person looking from the outside...no a person that follows the team like we do...you can see how he would come to that conclusion. We did sport a better record than the previous year. What he is trying to say is that even without Yao for a third of the season we still won 55 games. How good can a guy be if his team can win 55 games in a tough conference without him?

Thats his point...and its a valid point. And he is a sport writer who doesn't follow this team so he can take one valid point and stick to it even though we know there are other reasons why we continued to win without Yao.

As far as Battier...thats just plain ridiculous. The guy isn't making more than 8 million a year. He is a lock down defender (though I wonder why he never guarded Deron Williams in either playoff series) and he is a terrific 3 point shooter. We don't win without that guy on the floor.

+1 on everything.

That's the problem in general with national sports writers tho'. They don't really follow many teams that closely, going more for overall bredth of coverage and generally tend to make comments/analyses that reflect this. Really, the big media sports companies should change their model from a few national guys spouting off, to a collected bunch of beat writers each writing about their own team and maybe conferring to co-write the more general articles.

End rant.

Hmm, seems like you always so considerate when others criticize Yao. Actually I'm curious to see how you'll react if T-Mac is in the list

I'm both Yao and T-Mac fans, but just feel that you're way too bias.

I can see Battier being called overrated, but I have no idea what they were thinking saying Yao is overrated.

How is Battier overrated? Making a defensive team doesnt make you overrated.

I don't know why Battier is on the list. Overrated by whom? fans, coaches, writers, and players alike say he's a great role player with solid defense.... isn't that what he is?

As for Yao, the only way he might be considered overrated is due to injury concerns. If he's healthy there's no way that he should be called overrated.

Who cares though.... the guy clearly doesn't know much about basketball.

If you had to choose one guy from the roster to put on the list, it would BE T-mac, before anyone. He's fallen off so far from where he was at even 2-3 years ago, let alone 5-6, it's not even funny. The problem is he's fallen off so quick, that most people have yet to realize how far.

The reason McGrady isn't on the list is b/c he is pretty much ranked where he should be. Where Yao is supposedly the best center in the league. And Battier is one of the best...if not the best role player in the league....McGrady is 2nd tier swing man. Anyone saying he is below that or above that is simply being biased in whatever direction.

Honestly, when I clicked to read the article I was sure it was gonna be Yao and McGrady. When I saw that he wasn't on it...I realized why. You can't be overrated when people consider you what you actually are. And in McGrady''s case. Thats unfortunately not a good thing. Big season ahead for him. Lots of proving to do. As for Yao..one more injury to him and I think this franchise is gonna attempt to rebuild.

In spite of the fact that most of his injuries have been just pure bad luck and incidental? I'm fairly sure Yao's got the best chance of getting his contract re-upped. Now if he actually picks up anything chronic, that flies out the window.

With a guy like Les in the front office...finances take a back seat to winning. If Yao gets injured seriously again (2-3 month + type injury) he is not getting re-upped. McGrady is gonna be traded next summer. Artest won't be re-upped. The Artest trade signified one thing....this is our year or bust. Significant strides must be made playoff wise. We gotta get to the conference finals to justify this team staying together.

Yao might have bad luck injuries...but if he keeps getting those don't you think its a little ridiculous to continue to brush them off as bad luck? Especially when he is missing months at a time to recover? I know you guys like Yao. And maybe its b/c I spend a lot of time on the general board reading what the rest of the NBA fans think about our team and our players....but I am sorry to tell you this...only Rocket fans think Yao isn't injury prone.

Maybe that's because only Rockets fans actually pay attention to what his injuries really are.

Les doesn't put finances in the back seat to winning either. He plays a selective balancing game. I'm not positive it's this year or bust, but wouldn't be surprised. Regardless of the outcome, I don't see us getting rid of Yao under any circumstances that don't involve "the Chinese government demands it" or "retirement". Period. There's international negotiations and all sorts of other crap involved in his contract that is completely non-standard NBA stuff.
