Sean Singletary traded to Suns for DJ Strawberry

Post#1 » by CJballa14 » Mon Aug 25, 2008 9:34 pm

Damn... I thought singletary could have battled for the 3rd PG spot...

Strawberry's contract isn't guaranteed this year while Singletary's was partially.... expect him to be cut...

I'll get a link later...

Like the trade for Houston. Strawberry can D up, is young and may make the team. His offensive potential is a little different because he can pass but his decision making is still a little rash. Worth it, although I hope he gets cut and plays over in Europe so he can get pt unless you guys trade Head. Good trade. Phoenix must like Tucker more.

Maybe if he proves himself we will trade Head for a TE and save some money.
He is bigger and more athletic than Luther , also has better handles.
Nice player , might make the roster.

Why are you upset? This is a fantastic trade for our team, with absolutely no risk.
Like magee mentioned above, DJ is a solid defender at the PG spot and a mediocre offensive player.
So now we have Ewing Jr. and Strawberry, two of the toughest young players in this league.

We'll see if Morey decides to cut DJ. I personally think he's a capable player.

p.s.: Singletary was more of a scorer rather than a pure PG when he was in college.

my guess is we wont ever see DJ in a rox uni.

he may get the camp invite but he will most likely be cut prior to preseason in order to give him a chance to sign elsewhere.

Yeah, we're over the cap, I can't see a player who won't add much of anything getting getting kept. He'd be 1.5m for the year. Instead he's a better shot at going under the cap.

Right now we're at 72,675,292 and need to get to 71.15 mil. Halfway there!

I like this move although I only see Strawberry in a Rockets uni this season if we have terrible injuries...like even worse than the season we had Stro.

Don't cut him so fast.
If it was simply about money,Hou could have just sent Singletary to Pho and Pho could have waived Strawberry w/out having to trade him. So the Rockets saw something in Strawberry that caused them to trade FOR him.
I went back and reviewed the Draft Express Summer League reports and he can defend. I can easily see him getting burn in D-League while he works on his shot, then brought up for stretch run and put on Playoff roster to guard Williams,Paul,Nash and Iverson-and esp to shut down their back-ups and force them out of the game. Potentially Adelman could send out a unit of Strawberry,Artest,Battier,Dorsey and Yao. He would give the team tremendous flexability. Adelman could go Barry/Brooks for offense or Barry/Strawberry for defense.
One other consideration. Ron has missed MORE games then T-Mac over the past 2 seasons. For a game where Ron is out,Strawberry is big enough to guard 2s and 3s while Battier is resting.

Nice. One of those small trades Morey was talking about.

Gotta get guys set up for training camp. Make Brooks fight for his job.

DJ played 4 solid years for the Terps (Univ of MD) and is a gamer. He plays great D and gets plenty of steals - usually leading to exciting dunks. He can pass effectively and drives strong to the basket. He needs to improve is jump shot, though.

I think he could be great for you guys, if you show some patience and let him develop.

No doubt! RocketsTerps in the house. This is a GREAT trade by Daryl Morey. It takes care of the big/ athletic/ defending guard I thought we needed (J. Crittenton). Now all we need is a tall athletic 4/5 to backup and play w/ Yao against the Garnett type PF's that Scola can't defend. Trade Head & Hayes for Sean Williams and it's a wrap!

2)Tracy McGrady/ B. Barry/ V. Wafer
3) Shane Battier/ R. Artest/ C. Hayes
4) Luis Scola/C. Landry/Joey Dorsey
5) Yao/ D. Mutumbo/Sean Williams

Unless another trade or two can be made, this is all about taking money off the club's salary amount. The players that have the guaranteed contracts stay and the ones who don't won't be here. DJ really needs to go overseas and play b/c he needs the playing time to see where he is as a player.
