dj or harris on our team next season?

Post#1 » by kwelis fiasco » Mon Sep 29, 2008 1:36 pm

does anyone konw who it'll be?

dj is more valuble than harris i think. we have a lotta undersized bigs and i dont think we need harris.

our backcourt can use some help. a normal sized guard isnt bad to have. dj is one of them. he has an all around game on both ends of the court. the nly thing is hes young so he has inconsistencies and flaws and bla bla bla everything every rookie has. hes not perfect but hes not sposed to. hes a nice "projects" to work on. another nice future investment.

he can also play the point

i think harris is like hayes bu tnot as good, and if thats true than we really should let him go, or assign him to a team overseas or adleague team. he can be our backup big if one of them goes down for awhile.

Harris strikes me more as "like Landry, but not as good". He's great as a third string SF (he's not an "undersized big", unless you were saying that our one of our them could play third string SF), but yeah, I'd rather keep Strawberry, too.

edit: this post is based off a vague recollection of seeing him play for like 2 minutes and our lack of depth at the 1 guard.

Strawberry is too one dimensional. You can survive in this league if you are a big man who cant shoot.
But as a guard, If you can't shoot you are out.

If we trade Hayes to cut salary keep Harris.
If we trade Head to cut salary keep DJ.

Head is who I want out, but who knows, Adelman likes spot up 3 point shooters so we will never know. Personally even though DJ is a terrible shooter, his ball handling skills are pretty good, and his defense is terrific. But when you look at it another way Brooks is the same, but with less defense and much better on offense.

Harris IMO right now is invaluable, there is too much depth at many places for him to play, but if he can get some minutes in at SF as a garbage man grabbing rebounds/hustling, it can work out. Don't really know we can keep either or, both wouldn't be that big of a help, but you never know with this team and injuries.

This is a really tough one for me. I like what Mike Harris brings to the table, and if he actually has extended his range to the 3 point line then he could be a very useful player for us. However, our PG situation is a bit shaky at this point. If Brooks can shoot the 3 ball like he did in college then we might be good to go, but I don't know how good he'll be for us. Also, DJ's defense would be nice to have come playoff time against the elite PGs in the West (Nash, CP3, Deron, Parker, and so forth). I guess we'll have to trust Morey's judgment on this one.

imo we need dj more than harris. we have too many undersized bigs.

our backcourt isnt bad but if we had a normal sized guard it can help us down the road. normal, sized, guard. combo guard itoo. another ball handler that we had so much trouble w/ in the past.

he brings more to the table then harris. of corse harris can also improve his game like every single other player but as of now, today, dj has a better overall game.

i wish we can keep both but we cant. since we laready have undersized bigs, we should see wat a young, athletic guard can do for us as a backup.

IMO both Harris and Strawberry can be cut
PF Harris -- already got Scola, Landry, Hayes, Dorsey
SF Harris -- already got T-Mac, Artest, Battier
SG Strawberry -- already got T-Mac, Barry, Head
PG Strawberry -- i'll rather take Damon Stoudamire

Strawberry -- better defender but his offense suck which leave us 4 vs 5 on offense, why bother

cut both Harris and Strawberry

C-Yao, Dorsey
PF-Scola, Landry, Hayes
SF-Artest, Battier
SG-T-Mac, Barry, Head
PG-Alston, Brooks, Francis

sign a veteran backup PG
Darrell Armstrong or Damon Stoudamire
which give us 14
if Francis can't play anymore
cut him and sign Mutombo after all-star break

one extra spot to sign a veteran who are waived just before the playoff roster deadline

I agree with most of Max's proposal. We should waive Francis, Harris, and Strawberry, sign Mutombo and a veteran PG who can come off the bench.

I think you should look that word up again.

I dont like what Mike brings to the table. He doesnt have the shot to play the 2, and he is better suited as a 3. D.J. is a defensive wizard, and thats it, and we need shooters more than anything, so I would keep Luther.

Assuming team signs a backup C,that makes 14.
Harris is basically a slighly smaller Hayes, but w/some hops and a rudimentary jumper. He hustles and we know he'll accept being the 15nth guy.
Strawberry has shown strong defensive abilities being able to guard PGs,SGs and SFs. The Rockets should be able to get a second for Strawberry, they couldn't for Harris.
W/Battier and McGrady being slower to heal than expected,Head suddenly has a lot more value to the Rockets-as does Harris.
In a perfect world the Rockets could unload Francis on somebody and keep both. After the other team waives Francis w/the money Rockets send along,Steve can rehab w/no pressure and if he regains his health could re-sign w/Rockets for vet min-or w/another team wanting his services.
Me,I'd keep Strawberry,as he gives Adelman an offense/defense option off bench and Strawberry in Summer Leagues was dynamite in open court, racking up numerous assists and baskets on fast breaks. He struggled running team in 1/2 court but Adelman doesn't run his offense thru the PG.
