Rockets cut Strawberry; Keep Von Wafer

I liked Strawberry, but I am happy they stuck with Wafer, if it had to be between those two.

Wish they could have kept them both.

Now sign Deke!

they're over the luxury tax, i dont think they will sign deke.. As for Wafer, its the right decision. He's an athletic freak and he has a pure jumpshot. I still prefer Strawberry over head though. Head dribbles way too much , bad passer, and ball handler bad defender. His shot is telegraphed, and he sucks during clutch time, especially come playoff time.

Hm. Not bad I guess. It's so hard to decide on 11th men these days.

I see that you are awfully optimistic about Wafer.

Wafer will get play this year. T-Mac is too fragile and Battier is still coming back from injury.

What's with all the Head hate? You guys are funny.

Last year everyone hated Rafer, until they realized that he was kind of a decent player and we played horribly without him.

Of course, we as Rocket fans can't function unless we hate at least ONE person on the team. But who will take the place of Rafer???

Enter Luther Head.

He shoots horribly in a playoff series (or two), and now all of a sudden we forget the good two or three things he did during the season.

You know, this is as good a time as any to change my icon....

I wish they would have cut Hayes instead of DJ. How may underised PF do we need?

...and what if we want to play defense at the 4?

Hayes is one of the best post defenders in the league. Of course, Wadero, you wouldn't know that, since you want to cut him.

If St Stevie of Francis' ghost wasn't still haunting the Rockets, the team could have kept Strawberry.

BTW,I'm not buying the over the cap excuse. Once the team went for Artest and Landry they knew they were going to blow past the Lux Tax mark. McGrady,Yao,Artest,Battier,Alston,Scola(and Reed's dead salary) combine for $60.6mil,which left just $11.9mil for the rest of roster. Francis,Head,Hayes,Brooks and the expected signing of Barry makes another $9.5mil. That's 11 players and $70mil in salaries. That leaves $1.5mil to sign at least 2 more players. Sign Landry to $3mil and you're into the tax for $1.5mil and you still need a 13nth. Even if team signed Dorsey and Deke to minimum contracts, the team would have payroll of @ $74.2mil,meaning even if Francis contract magically vanished the team would still be @$100thou above the Tax.
Since the team gave Dorsey more than the min in order to get a longer contract having Francis contract vanish would leave the team @ $500thou over the tax. Subbing Wafer's min for Dekes "saves" @$300tho. W/Francis salary the team is about $2.9mil over the Lux Tax threshold. Trading away Head or Hayes for nothing but a draft pick still leaves the team $1mil over tax. To get under the tax enough to sign Deke means the team needs to shed some $3.7mil in contracts.

if Francis can't play we can claimed it off the insurrance
it doesn't matter we are not going to play him anyway
he's on the roster because we need at least 14 on the team

there's still a league-wide disrespect for Alston questioning if he's good enough of a PG to go deep into the playoffs, and i find myself questioning if he's able to keep up with Chris Paul, Rajon Rondo, Deron Williams, Nash, or even Jordan Farmar. ok, maybe not farmar, but i can see him being toasted by some of these guys. DJ would've been a good D guy against some of those guards.
