Brooks ready for a breakout year?

Post#1 » by jhern87 » Fri Oct 31, 2008 3:49 pm

Look I don't get to watch the Rockets a lot (live in Cali) but I've always been a huge Aaron Brooks fan. I noticed he has a pretty solid night last night and was wondering if you Rockets fans feel like this could be a little breakout year for him?

IMO, he seems like the perfect PG for an Adelman system but this year might not be quite ready to run the team and facilitate the offense. Do you guys think he's finally starting to learn the game a little better and poised for a breakout year?

Last night was the first consistently good/really good game I can remember him having. He had a good preseason. He showed flashes last year, but could never put anything together for a whole game or anything like that. Pretty much, I have no idea, but he's doing good so far!

He had a great preseason and he was awesome last night.
This could definetly be a breakout year for him.

I don't think he will ever become a starting pg , at least not on a very good team but he can be a great backup and spark off the bench.

He can blow by his man at will and with more experience he will learn to make better decisions and be more comfortable shooting the mid range jumper.

Defense is still is biggest problem , he gives effort but he is just small and can be easily overpowered.
With time hopefully he will learn how to stay infront of his man better and will improve in that area.

BTW, I dared to push the button. The best wasted 10 minutes of my life.

Well, not quite THAT good, but still entertaining.

look good on offense but defense till need work

he's a guard
he went inside for an offensive rebound (which don't really have a chance because of his size) and left Terry unguarded going to the other size for a layup

I think it is too early to say he has a break out season.

As with all young players its about consistency. When we play scoring guards his defense will keep him off the floor even though he is vastly better offensive player than Alston.

He's our "Bobby Jackson". The 03 Sacramento Kings version.

His job is to push the tempo and score off the bench.

Brooks will be fine. He is already a better offensive player than Rafer. He just needs playing time.
He and Artest dominated Dallas in the 4th quarter.

He's a much better offensive player than Rafer but not much less D player than Rafer as well. We will see more minutes from AB.

I don't think he'll ever be a starting PG. He's always going to be that 'sparkplug' type of player. I think his minute are going to be up and down this year as well depending on defensive matchups.

One thing Brooks does that Artest doesn't is drive the lane and pass out. If he keeps it up and doesn't get abused on defense Brooks will start picking up alot more minutes.

Brooks > Alston

From what I've seen so far. I know I'll catch heat for it but Brooks is a stud of a PG. He already has scoring down and his passing will come with experience.

I had to dig this thread up since AB is now starting for you guys. I'm a huge Brooks fan and can't wait to see him play Portland tonight! He has an extremely high ceiling and I think he's really going to have a solid career. Good luck tonight Houston!

I don't see him getting the chance. I think Morey'll sign a pg who will start . He'll continue being a decent 6th man just like he was before rafer got traded.
