Scola should be better..

At the very least a guy with these kinds of creditentials should be capable of being on par with Elton Brand (when he was healthy). Why is it that Yao still remains the only big man post option? How could Scola not figure out how to dominate in stretches? Somebody pull up his stat sheet.. The best European / South American post player in international competition should easily be cutting it in the NBA. We have Ron Artest / TMac at the wings to take away the pressure and even Yao positioning himself elsewhere yet this guy can barely operate...

He's been playing well recently, cut the man some slack

Lol, what do you expect him to do? hes played great so far, same with Landry. And both have kept their composure as Yao has been just a total failure.

People can't even do good without getting a thread pointing out what they are doing or not doing...

He's way overrated in the post. The man has no moves going to his left. He's crafty but not a legit post option. His defense is piss poor too. He's getting schooled nightly by average PFs. His work on the boards this year has been bad, and has been inconsistent hitting his mid-range Js. His one redeeming quality seems to be his hustle, which leads to a high number of steals relative to his position.

I'm not too happy with him right now, mostly because he's at the point in his career where you're not going to see much improvement, but he's still a whole lot better than Juwan Howard was when he was here.

I'd say he's a legit post option, just not a legit go-to option. His lack of moves to the left take away some of his opportunities to score, but don't affect his efficiency or that he's better at offense than most of the non-AS clods that currently occupy the position.

Defense is normally ok imo, but he's had some bad games this year. See the dyess thread for my opinion on his rebounding (it seems pretty decent-good to me ...). Mid range .. still waiting on NBA.com to start updating the hotspots site for 2009.

he is a hustle player, not a dominant player.

Great defense last night on Amare. If he defends other PFs like that he can suck as much as he wants offensively.

Are yuo kidding me?
What else do you want Scola to do? did you check his numbers?Did you notice howArtest SCORED 20.5 PPG last season, and now only scores 14ppg in 40 mpg? Do you realize how difficult is to have a lot of scoring personally when there are so many scoring options (or ballhogs like alston)?

Did you compare them with other starters numbers?

CHECK SCOLA http://www.nba.com/playerfile/luis_scola/index.html
50.7% FG 11.5 ppg, 7.1 rpg EFF + 14,25 ...IN 25 MINUTES PER GAME!!!
And even after a game where he dedicated exclusively to guard Amare, only scoring 2 pts...even in this situation (wich affects stats due to just a few games counting)
HIS EFFICIENCY PER MINUTE IS EVEN ABOVE YAO!!!

YAO MING http://www.nba.com/playerfile/yao_ming/index.html
46.3% FG PPG 16.6 RPG 9.90 APG 1.1 EFF + 19.50

NOW COMPARE WITH RON ARTEST http://www.nba.com/playerfile/ron_artest/index.html
30.8% FG PPG 14,3 RPG 5,50 APG 2,5 EFF + 11,75 in almost 40 MINUTES PER GAME

TMAC http://www.nba.com/playerfile/tracy_mcgrady/index.html
40.7% FG PPG 17,8 RPG 4,50 APG 4,9 EFF + 16,88

ALSTON http://www.nba.com/playerfile/rafer_alston/index.html
34.8% FG PPG 8,5 RPG 2,80 APG 4,1 EFF + 9,38

Now, will you keep complaining over Scola production when you ANALYZE the number,s who won't reflect his intangibles (great Basketball IQ, hustle, or how he's willing to sacrifize his stats for the sake of the team, like he did guarding Amare?)

He should be as good as Elton Brand??? Didnt we pick up scola for absolutely nothing??

I think hes playing pretty damn good for his intial expectations. He is a hustle player that does the intangibles,,,,hits wide open jumpers,,,,and has a decent post game. Dont expect vast improvements from scolas game but he is very dependable hopefully some improvements will come defensively but he did a great job on amare last game. What more do you want from a second round pick??

You shouldn't blame Scola for 'not being better'. Rick Adelman has to design plays for Scola and utilizes those plays when Yao struggles. But at the same time Scola seems to play at his best when he goes about his own ways and roams freely on the court.
