From reading through Cuban's blog comments and posted defense, I highly doubt he did anything illegal. It's a civil action, so jail time doesn't look forthcoming either (Stewart's jail came from something else). It looks like he should get off without much problem, but given that the SEC is somewhat like the IRS and several other funfun government agencies where the factual event doesn't necessarily matter in the effective outcome, there's really no telling yet.

What confuses me is how this seems to be a publicity case, but I'm sure that most of the people to whom it should apply are aware enough to realize that (assuming I'm correct). If that's the case, either it's a deterrent because they know other things would come to light, or ... Dunno, something seems a little off here.
