The Possibility of Cuttino

Post#1 » by College Boy » Thu Dec 4, 2008 8:41 pm

With Cuttino Mobley on the cusp of medical retirement, do you think he'll return to Houston if he's cleared to play again? From both sides point of view I think it would be a good move for him. He still lives in Houston, and he played his best ball here, not to mention his reuniting with Steve Francis. If I'm not mistaken he played for Adleman in Sacramento (Or was he gon by then?), I'm not quite sure. Discuss.

Why would we want him?

Yeah, he a little to old now.. 33. We couldn't get him even for the minimum, we need mutombo though. I don't know why Morey's ass is so slow in getting Mutombo.. CLEAR SOME GODDAMN CAP. Trade Luther, Dorsey.. I don't give a ****, we just need a back up center that can defend and rebound or we aren't going past the first round.

We do not need Cuttino. We are set at SG with Head, T-Mac and Barry.

why not?
0 - Aaron Brooks
1 - Tracy McGrady
2 - Luther Head
3 - Steve Francis
4 - Luis Scola
5 - Cuttino Mobley
6 -
7 -
8 -
9 -
10 -
11 - Yao Ming
12 - Rafer Alston
13 - Von Wafer
14 - Carl Landry
15 - Joey Dorsey

now we just need to convince Battier, Artest, Barry, Hayes to change their jersey # (maybe Jorsey too, cause we only can have 15 players max)

Mobley's had a good basketball career. But if Mobley is at the point where he can't even pass a physical, he should consider retiring. I also heard he has a heart condition.

Apparently the Knicks aren't passing him even though he played with that condition here, in orlando, and in L.A. i.e. they just want to cut salary (shock!). If they get him to retire for medical reasons, I don't think he can just rejoin any team at any time he wants, iirc there are plenty of stipulations. We don't need to add him anyway.
Morey 2020.

Q:How are they experts when they're always wrong?
A:Ask a stock market analyst or your financial advisor

Mobley is retiring today.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Knicks guard Cuttino Mobley will retire from the NBA, a person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press on Wednesday night.

The Knicks have called a press conference for Thursday afternoon at their training center, where Mobley will make the announcement. The person confirmed Mobley’s decision to the AP on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on the player’s behalf.

New York acquired the veteran guard along with Tim Thomas from the Los Angeles Clippers on Nov. 21 for Zach Randolph and Mardy Collins, but he never played for the Knicks after a physical exam revealed a problem with his heart.

The Knicks chose to let the trade go through, anyway, because moving Randolph’s contract freed up salary-cap space for the summer of 2010. Mobley has been away from the team while undergoing additional testing and seeking other opinions.

“Personally, I think it’s the best decision if he has to retire,” Thomas said after the Knicks’ 121-109 victory over New Jersey.

“I mean, basketball’s been great to him. He has made a lot of money, he had success and at this point he’s in his 11th year or whatever, so I mean, he has a son and his family, and the most important thing is his health. He can always come around and be around and things like that, but the most important thing is his health.”

Mobley played 11 games this season for the Clippers, averaging 13.7 points. He was expected to become the Knicks’ starter at shooting guard after the trade, since Jamal Crawford was dealt to Golden State in another deal that day.

The Knicks have been playing short-handed, with Stephon Marbury banned from the team while the sides are working toward a buyout, and Nate Robinson injured. They may try to sign another guard, or could go for Patrick Ewing Jr., who was in training camp with them and was the last cut before rosters had to be submitted.

Mobley averaged 16.0 points over 11 seasons with the Rockets, Orlando Magic, Sacramento Kings and the Clippers. His best season was in 2001-02, when he scored 21.7 points per game.

Great player IMO, wasn't as inefficient as Francis handling the ball, shot the ball well, passed when he had too, decent rebounder, and great overall player. Sucks to see him retire, because I'm sure he still has enough in his tank to play a couple of more seasons, but hope his health gets better.
