Rockets not interested in Mutombo?

http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archi ... _or_spurs/This really caught me off guard today. I thought the plan all along was to bring Dikembe back in early 2009. Give him half a season off and add him to our roster to help back up Yao down the stretch. We've been missing his rebounding, shot blocking, and locker room presence.
I know it became a problem when we had to match Carl Landry's salary, which was a little more than they were hoping because it put us over the luxury tax threshold. I still thought we would find a trade to dump salary and resign him.
If he doesn't end up with us, I wish the best of luck to him. It sounds more like we are not interested in bringing him back, because I'm sure we are still on the top of his list.

Heat? I'm not sure that's a good place for him. He personally wants too win a championship, I'd say Celtics would be his best bet. But if hes gone for the Rockets, ya great competitor, and great player overall, filled in nicely when Yao went down. Hopefully he doesn't end up with the Heat, that would be a mistake IMO.

We probably thought he will wait for us until the deadline to see if we can clear room.
I would like to bring him back also but if it doesn't happen I just want to get an athletic big who is not undersized , we need some athleticism and length on this team , we are the least athletic team in the league.

he said he got offers for Head
i'm not sure how much cap room he can clear
but he ended up saying he doesn't want to do it because Head give us better depth
i'm seeing us dealing with a bigger hole in the center spot
i guess T-Mac, Artest, Battier, Barry injuries made him hesitate to trade Head

If the Rockets wanted Motumbo, they'd have Motumbo.
There are only 14 players on the Roster so there's an open spot for him.
On a vet min contract,he's only cost the Rockets some $1.6mil-including the Lux Tax penalty. And each day that passes that figure goes down.(They're paying Francis over $2.6mil just in salary NOT to play.) W/over a fourth of the season gone, his total cost is now under $1.2mil.
To get under the Lux Tax the team would have to find takers for BOTH Francis and Head. To unload a Francis the going price includes throwing in a First. The Rockets sent their 09 First to Sac for Artest.
Motumbo seemed to indicate he hadn't heard from the Rockets. If they were interested they'd be checking in,letting him know their plans, asking about his conditioning, possib even sending someone over to check him out.
The Rockets have no real interest in Motumbo.

We have enough room for Deke. And why would we give up Dorsey so early? We havent even seem him play much this season to judge him. And we need Luther for our guard depth. What if T-Mac or Alston get hurt for a long period of time? Then what?

Mind if I take a wild guess? Adelman tries to nurture some fresh locker room chemistry without Deke, who use to take care of things back there. But then it doesnt work out so far, for that nobody seems to be in charge , nobody says a thing except battier who shoots some breeze once in a while, it's really embarrassing...... If this dont change soon we are going to sign deke. He is not going anywhere.

Mutombo has been a great person to have around the team. His work with Yao has obviously been paying dividends, and it is obvious to anyone that he was an integral part of the 22 win streak last year. I understand that Pro-Ball is a business, and as such will act like one. I just think that we should allow Mutombo to play his career out in H-town. I think Mutombo wants to come back, he's just making a bit of a public push for US to do something. would a "sign Mutombo immediately" petition do anything? if so, you got my signature!!!!

I believe that Dikembe Mutumbo is asking for 7.2 million per year or about 3.6 million for a half a year.
Either way if he is going to play on a team that has a chance for the Finals and they want to stay near or under the Cap. Dikembe may have to look at 2.5 million, however I believe if 2.5 is all he wanted Houston wouldve resigned him.
I believe around 3.5 is what he is looking for...based on half a season.
I got within a reasonable percentage on 33 of the 39 Free agents I evaluated this Summer.
On the Six I was wrong it totally appears the teams overpaid for those players services.
I base Salaries on the following categories: Avg Cat I and II to gain a Salaried Number.
General Structured Salary
Defensive Salary
3pt Specialist Salary

The guy is taking some serious chinese herbal medicine to get stronger and younger, he is on a tremendous reversal process. when he comes back he will be such a monster he'll beast aginst any team. so we'll have Yao play off the bench in the Playoffs.....

I like Mutombo but he's not gonna get that type of money from any organization.

Beat me too it...
Mutombo only wanted a little above the min.. But instead Les will give him the min. then donate some money towards his hospital. Atleast thats what happened last year. Only reason we havent signed Deke is because we are already above Luxury Tax and u already pay x2 then Les would have to donate to his hospital which is way too much money at this time.

See the "Les Alexander" article. Mutombo isn't asking 3.5-7 million, but he'd definitely cost us that. Thankfully the Celtics are also over the cap (and pretty well set), which makes them less likely to compete with us, and the Heat just sucks.

It's gonna be hard for 44yr old Mutombo to get going again... I hope the Rockets work together to help revitalize the old man's legs and arms. Yao and Deke probably do the same therapy (7 footers back therapy) to get going every game.
