[Chron] T-Mac Criticizes Himself

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/6195787.html“I criticize myself,” McGrady said Monday. “I can take it from anybody, from everybody. I know my ability. And when I do get right, all that … is put to rest. So kick me when I’m down, because I swear to you, I’ll be back up. And when I get back up, I’m going to sit back, and I’m going to laugh, man, because I’m going to have the last laugh.
“People tell me,” he said, with emotion filling his voice. “They know how I eat that up. They know how I take that all in and use it as motivation. I’ve never been a guy to be criticized and go home and go in my closet and boo-hoo cry. I was criticized when I was a young fella coming into this league, criticized by my own coach (Butch Carter), saying I wouldn’t last three years in this league.
“Here I am, 12 years, seven-time All-Star, two-time scoring champ. I don’t worry about that.
“I’m not going to go in the closet and hide from it. I’m going to stand there and face it. I’m 29 years old. I’m young. It ain’t over for me.
“Right now, it’s a real hard time for me. I know it’s going to come back. I’ve got to be patient. I’ve got to take everything that’s thrown at me. I’m taking that. I just keep going.”
Lot more from Adelman/T-Mac inside. I want to believe, but talk with McGrady has been rather cheap past seasons, hopefully he can deliver this time.

He can talk all he wants, no one will care unless we see some results.

Agreed, We've heard the same story every year but hopefully this is a sign of things to come

It makes me feel better that he still belives that he can be like last ytear again , I believe in that and the fact that he is so confident that it will happen makes me feel better about this season.

You don't want him like last year...he was 21pts on 41%/29% 3PT and even in the playoffs you can't discount he was 27
on 42% (not so great, but all volume).

I believe in him. It's not like he isn't GOOD anymore. He has been hurt and he hasn't been trying hard.
I really think during the late-season playoff push for seeding or whatever and in the actual playoffs he will try his hardest and by then he will be healthy. We will see the best Tmac we've seen in a while. Hopefully Artest and Battier are fully healthy by then as well. Brooks continues his development and Wafer is coming along nicely. We should be a force in the playoffs. Now lets just hope Yao doesnt get a sudden mysterious injury that will sideline him for half a year

I want him like last year with this year's improved 3 point shooting and free throw shooting.

Just for once I would like to hear the
current medical prognosis on T-Mac's knee given by someone in the know. ie a doctor. Why is his knee still sore? Lack of rehab leading to a lot of scar tissue around the area? Structural issues? Other medical stuff we don't know about? What?
With all due respect, listening to T-Mac, Shay, T-Wack, et all, expressing their confidence in the knee isn't quite doing it for me. I am hopeful he can recover of course, seeing as plenty of athletes have the scope and come back fine. Ewing used to get both knees scoped every offseason and be ready for training camp, no problems. But this one seems particularly prolonged, and it's still unclear exactly why. Laziness? complications? Are there any confirmed reports either way?

Yeah I saw one on the general board yesterday from some dude. He didn't have any citations, but he seemed pretty legit, y'know?
Actually I was moaning about everyone talking like they're damn *&#%*( insiders just a few days ago. No one cares to check or cite their information. "Yeah, I read it on some blogspot or something."
...or we could take Tracy as the authorative source.
...
AAAAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

when t-mac talks he usually embarrasses himself....here we go again i guess.
"it feels great to finally get out of round one" only to blow a 3-1 lead to the pistons and get knocked out of round 1
"Im the best player on the court in this series, so my team will win" only to let baron davis out play him and lose to the charlotte hornets in the playoffs
after the 1st round loss to the mavs "i will come back stronger, and i will have the last laugh." its been 3 years since then, hes lost 2 more times in round 1, and one year didnt even make the playoffs.
after signing with houston "expect big thing in houston".......yeah right
shutup tmac, put as much effort in practice and games as you do in talking. you dont have the heart to get the last laugh. enjoy your 21 mill this year, you didnt earn it

How I see it was Wade went through a similar surgery and he looked horrible when he came back, but nobody questions Wade's effort (not saying they should, Wade by all accounts seems to be a workhorse). It took him a year to fully recover, and Wade is much younger than T-Mac. I don't think T-Mac is done as all the doom and gloom fans on here say but it's hard for me to picture a scenario where T-Mac is 100% healthy come May.

Last time I remember him being criticized in general to a full amount was back in the beginning of the season in '06 when he went down with a back injury. He later came back to throw down 30/7/7 on 47% and steamrolled the Rockets to a 20-10 record without their best big man (Yao), don't know if hes still capable of doing that----mentally.

I agree,, Who knows how long it will take for his knee to fully heal. Your point also about wade is pretty valid. I think to much emphasis is being put on tmac mentally, hes clearly frusterated and that affects hsi game but the bottom line is some games hes limping some games hes not. Hes frusterated because he doesnt know if hes going to wake up and be 70% tmac or 40% tmac. His injury prone body and lack of consistant mental toughness have plagued his career. Lets just hope hes right and he does bounce back and gets the last laugh

Wonder if this means he is gonna start scoring 20 points a night again. One can only hope.
