Based upon recent media reports that I'm sure you've all read and what seems to be a near consensus from fans, it seems like McGrady could possibly be moved.

Over on the Portland board, there is a thread about a trade that would bring McGrady to Portland. It has been met with a mixed response. The idea of bringing McGrady to Portland and playing him under 30mpg is an interesting one.

McGrady's value doesn't seem to be very high right now, especially with his injuries, underwhelming stats, and contract.

Travis Outlaw and Raef Lafrentz' expiring contract are enough to match McGrady's salary. What do you think of the idea?

The trade on the Blazers board, originally written by Sam Smith, suggested that Hinrich might come back to Houston in a 3-way trade.

Well think about it logically for a second. An expiring holds virtually no value to us because next year's FA class is not very good and T-Mac's contract is expiring the following year anyway. So you're basically asking if we want to trade T-Mac, who when healthy would start on any team in the NBA, for a bench player from POR. You might as well propose the same trade to GS fans in regards to Monta Ellis.

If T-Mac does get traded it'll be next year not this year, and it'd probably involve some draft picks.

edit: so apparently this derived from a Sam Smith article (lol) and that HOU would get Hinrich and Gooden. That's actually pretty reasonable (though I haven't looked at it from a contract perspective yet) but still I find it highly unlikely anything is going to happen.

sabas, it isn't bad, considering his value at the time, but I think at this point in time trading McGrady is too unrealistic, no matter what the false conflicting reports may be. We're losing, McGrady is hurt, being **** when he does play and it's easy to fabricate information and over-blow it to a situation that grabs headlines, but expirings really do us no good considering McGrady expires before the big 2010 class anyway.

And we won't get equal value back, McGrady looks HORRIBLE this season, and truly the most OLDEST 29 year old in the league, but his potential (key word: potential, like every season, that words gets associated with this team) has a chance to take us over the top when we're healthy. If we trade McGrady for essentially expirings that wont do anything to help us right now, then even with McGrady playing so poorly, our chances go from most likely, pretender/possible contender to a fringe playoff team. Trading McGrady would likely symbolize rebuilding or taking a step back, and considering we still have Artest for at least this season, I'd think the FO would wait and see how the season ends rather than jumping to conclusions early in the season.

And Sam Smith is kinda a moron, he's literally made T-Mac to "Bulls, Blazers, Knicks, Heat, insert team" rumors ever since his 2nd year in Houston. He seems to have some sort of infatuation either with McGrady, or infatuation that he'll be traded. Like he literally does this every season.

you know I got the respect for you sabas, but I think trading McGrady at this point is too unrealistic and not the best option for the franchise, no matter how fans, including myself may be disgruntled. Have to stay the course, at least for this season.

Before reading it I would have assumed that the deal was unrealistic, but it's been good hearing that confirmed by Rockets fans. I didn't know if most of y'all just wanted him gone or if you think he'll get his game right.

As that's obviously directed to me and a few others, please note that we've had people coming in here daily/hourly with very silly trades, which layer on top of all the recurring biannual multimonth fan disgruntlement period that's occurred in the first half of every season and right after our playoff exits every year for the past 3.5 years (and occasionally at the trade deadline, too). It gets frustrating, and with trades that are silly, whether you knew it, intended it to be, heard it from another source, or whatever, the faster and harder they're dismissed, the more manageable the silliness is. Wasn't trying to be abrupt to you specifically, but it really is a bad trade.

You mean the Diop signing. The Harris trade, for cap purposes, didn't work that badly. He's not producing nearly as well as he did to start the season. Neither is Kidd, but he's doing ok. The Stackhouse incident really seems to have screwed up the intended plan there. (salary dump with minimal talent loss due to non-contending status)
