His D is fine. Iggy is just making tough shots.

He has lost some of it due to his ankle so his close on jumpshots is a little bit slower. Iggy made some tough shots, but Shane is still injured, he already said this season won't be a 100% for him.

He was a walking disaster tonight as he has been for most of this season. In a span of about a minute he dribbled the ball off of his foot with nobody around on him, which led to a layup. Then he bricked a wide open 3 and subsequently knocked an easy rebound out of Yao's hands with nobody else under the basket. Overall, for a starting 3 in the NBA, he's not giving the Rockets enough production. The sad part of it for us long suffering Rockets' fans is that he has no upside. He's on the decline. He's proven that he's definitely not worth the price we paid to get him here.

What does that have to do with his defense?

Battier contested most of Iguodala's shots. That hand in the face thing didn't bother him. That one shot where McGrady got up and contested the release seemed to bother him. Some guys just aren't phased by Battier's technique. Simple as that.

It's not some guys it's everyone , I never liked Battier techinque of a hand in the face.
If you played basketball you know a hand in the fact doesn't effect you , what effect your shots it's if they make you change your form or thinking about putting more arc to not let the defender disrupt your shot.

A hand in the face is useless , espevially against NBA players.

It is effective. He's forced Kobe into several bad games with that technique alone. That last shot Iggy made was over great defense.

In that final stretch he actually played exceptional defense. Iggy made tough shots + several times he made great defense plays resulting in loose balls but which, due to bad luck, ended up in sixer hands for scramble scores.

And all this on a bum ankle.

What? Of course a hand in your face affects your jumpshot. It blocks your vision of the basket and affects your concentration.

Battier's defense is simple, he stays back far enough he doesn't get burned often and contests shots with a hand in your face if he can't affect your release. It's still making the player shoot over the top, with a hand in his face. That's all you can ask for.

What about tmac getting burned by the sixers' guards? What about rafer? Do we trade away everyone once they get blown by by a defender? $hit, Yao got posterized too!! He needs to go...

BTW this is the crap I'm talking about....a thread about someone after every game. It's not that "bad" now, but it's gonna get to the point where someone will open a thread on some random thought they got sitting on the john. Why not keep it in the gamethread??

it really doesn't matter if there's a hand in my face or not
it's better to have a hand in my face before i get the ball

Injuries or whatnot, I think Battier hasn't been able to play defense like he has in the past few seasons. But last night, I thought he was decent.

Iguodala, a 38.5% eFG jumpshooter, was hitting shots from all angles of the court. Sometimes, good offense/luck trumps good defense.

Joe Johnson was doing the same thing to Battier and Artest when he was in Toyota Center earlier this season. I guess they are bad going one-on-one on defense. Or T-Mac is just overrated since he can't use his penetration to break free to jump a shooter. He's been using high pick-and-roll over and over.

It didn't come out right , a hand in the face does effect your shot , but very little imo , it's not like you can't see the basket you already see the basket and just need to shoot.
Sometimes though Battier puts a hand in the face when the shooter is already about to release the ball , then imo it's just useless.

Face-guarding will work sometimes or not, depends on the player, but in most cases it doesnt. I'd rather Battier go up and contest the shot.

I disagree, i think Battier's method is very effective. He is just not quick enough right now.

That's why he's never been the DPOY and why we traded Gay for him - had to get a worse player to keep anyone from getting in TMac's way. Contesting shots is better because you're contesting them - so if you get the block they'll never make the shot, but if you don't then they can shoot it no problem. The logic is foolproof.
