Ride the storm out or Re-Tool?

Post#1 » by tisbee » Fri Feb 6, 2009 7:43 am

Last season the Rockets were a struggling team coming out of the gate and T-Mac was in and out of the line-up. Scola's emergence and Landry's developement gave the Rockets hope that their PF situation had been fixed but their bench was a problem.
Morey tried to remake the Rocket's bench. Traded for a vet PG who knew the coach's system. Had a deal worked out w/Barry,bringing him in to provide 3pt vet experience for the Playoffs. Then tried to cap it off w/a trade for Ron Artest to provide bench scoring, toughness and another strong defender. Then Yao went down,Barry backed out and talks w/Sac broke off.(I believe real reason was Rockets felt w/Yao gone they weren't going to go far in the Playoffs so why take a chance on Ron opting out after giving up Brooks and the 09 First for him?)

This yr,will Morey and the Rockets braintrust believe they have enough once everyone is healthy,or do you think they will try another mid-season makeover? And if going for a makeover, what's their area of need?

(BTW,I think Morey and Co. envisioned the Rockets looking something like this heading in to last yrs Playoffs-
Alston,Jackson
McGrady,Barry,Head
Battier,Artest,Harris
Scola,Landry,Hayes
Yao,Motumbo
unknown D-League,Euro-League player to fill out roster-perhaps Wood,or even Green for part of Bonzi TE.

After Jackson trade, the Rockets who I believe would have been traded for Ron were Francis-modest contract-Snyder,Brooks and Novak, and the 09 First.)

Trade for Amare if possible but if we cant get the ball to Yao, I cant see us getting it to Amare

I know why alot of HOU fans would like to get Amare. I just dont know why they think he would do better in HOU than what he is doing now. Right now his game is suffering because they play more of a halfcout style and have an dominent inside presence at C. Isnt that the same as the Rockets? We also have a far worse PG that cant spoonfeed Amare like Nash has done in the past. Houston is not trading for Amare. Book it. If we make a big trade it will be Artest leaving and it should be a PG coming backinstead of a PF.
