PG- Aaron Brooks or Kyle Lowry?

Post#1 » by ZitPopper » Thu Feb 19, 2009 10:15 pm

Hey guys,

From reading the trade report posts, it doesn't seem like a lot of you were fond of the deal that sent out Alston for Lowry. The question is now, who starts for the Rockets long term, Aaron Brooks or Kyle Lowry? I'd love to see Brooks get the position long-term.

Here are the stats for Brooks and Lowry stretched out per 36 minutes:
--------------Brooks/Lowry
Points--------16.3/12.4
Assists----------4.2/6
Boards----------3.2/3.7
Steals-----------0.8/1.6
Turnovers------2.3/2.7
FG%--------------40%/41%
3pt%-------------35%/25%
PER---------------12.9/14.4

Here's a Basketball-reference.com player comparison page if you're interested.

I'd love to know what Rocket fans think, as like I said, I'm a Brooks fan and would love to see him get the opportunity. :)

I'll try adding a poll here, but I'm new to all this, so forgive me if it doesn't work out. Thanks, guys.

I'd assume Brooks because of his superior range.

Most Definitely Brooks. I think trading Alston away signifies that Coach A has complete faith in Brooks. If he does, then i do too.

Alston has been a starter in Houston the past two seasons and brings toughness and defense most every night, but the Rockets believe that second-year guard Aaron Brooks is their point guard of the future and have been looking to move either Alston or Luther Head for the past few months.

Obviously Brooks. Brooks held his own on a playoff team. Lowry can't even get a starting spot in the grizzlies.

It has to be Brooks. With Yao on our team, our points will always get open looks from three. There's really no contest between AB and Kyle there...

I'm not a fan of either long term though... great sparks but just don't feel like starters to me

I like Lowry as a defensive-minded type player coming off the bench, which is the best role for him IMO.

He's quick but can't shoot the basketball. Is someone we can develop to becoming a great back-up.

Looks like we are ready to hand the reins over to Aaron Brooks. No T-Mac makes it harder, because Brooks can start alongside a ball-playing 2-guard. We now have Artest in that role...not as good as T-Mac, though perhaps an under-rated passer himself.

Brooks will get the starting nod. Remains to be seen if he can hold onto that spot long-term.

Probably Brooks b/c he is familiar with whatever it is we call a system. But eventually Lowry will. He started for the Grizzles. And was good in the role. I imagine he'll eventually start something this season. I am just happy we realized just how bad Rafer Alston was for this team.

It must be Aaron Brooks. Basically, he knows the system, and the management trusted him. I just have no idea how we gonna beat teams in the playoff. But, I am just gonna trust Morley.

Amongst top teams in the league neither of those players would match up as point guards especially in the playoffs. Not sure why we want two long term similiar undersized guards when were still in a position to have home court advantage in the playoffs. This trade also hiinders the development of brooks not having a veteran guard to show him the ropes. Both players are great back ups and could be starters in the future, i just dont get why we got rid of raefor when it didnt even save us that much money he expired next year

Both these guys are too wet behind the ears to help us in the PlayOffs. Maybe we can get a vet like Armstrong to come out of retirement and run our team. The guy that used to be the Magic's vet point and played with Tracy.. I'm hoping we can make that type of vet addition by then..

Brooks can save us in a close game. We're up by one or two, we inbound the ball to AB. He runs fast enough with the ball that he could milk the clock for a few seconds that otherwise would go to the other team. When they do get around to fouling him, send in the DPOY-level Kyle Lowry to pressure the PG and force a bad shot or pass.

how many games did you watch this season?
how many times Adelman pulled Brooks out of the game in late 4th quarter and put Alston back in

There was a bit of satire in my post.
I don't get to watch many Rockets games from Austin, but I do listen. And I know that Brooks has been pulled out of the game many times. Then again, how many of those games did we win?
