Tracy might have done something good in the past year and a half for this. Considering how good artest is playing right now and lowry too i probably wouldn't have done this trade.

Your name frightens me, unless of course AI is meant to be Iggy.
We watched the tragedy unfold. We did as we were told, we bought and sold. It was the greatest show on Earth...but then it was over.

Re: Thank you Tracy, I really mean it
Actually I would have taken that deal. Artest isn't going to re-sign....and please lets not forget the chucking display he put on just two nights ago. Something that he does more often than not. I am happy to have Artest but moreso b/c McGrady is hurt. If McGrady was healthy...this trade would have helped us a lot. Baron lost his desire to play when he got to the Clips and Brand wasn't there. He needs a change of scenery in the worst way. It would have worked out for both sides b/c we are team that desperately needs good PG play and Baron would provide that.

Well...
I don't think he meant Iverson to the 2nd power...

We have his Bird rights. Otherwise, Morey won't have given up two first-round picks (one being Donte Greene) just to see him walk out from the ballclub.

artest has been playing awesome, 10/15 FG the other night 3/4 from 3, sure as hell beats out tmac's best days + he adds defense.

At the very least they can pull off a sign and trade.
I'm glad this trade didn't happen. You're swapping one chucker who's 3 happy for a chucker and a 3 happy pg who can't seem to make them.

If Artest can keep up his stat line AFTER T-Mac announced he's out, then I really don't mind him being back.

Yes, Rockets managment already stated that they want Artest back and unless they plan to rebuild (which they're not), we should defenitely get something back. I also look for McGrady to be traded in the offseason (PIstons?) for someone like Rip Hamilton, Pistons do this for 2010 cap room.

It has seemed to escape everyone's notice that all the supposed trades the Rockets didn't make INCLUDED RON ARTEST. I think that's sort of a clue to the Rockets current thinking, not statements they made back before training camp had even started.

That still only means that we can offer him the most money. Are you really willing to give Artest a max deal? If that answer is no then his Bird Rights mean nothing. What if a team wants to offer him more than say the 10 million a year he is worth? Are we really willing to go much higher than that to keep him.
I think Morey knows what he is doing....this is a one year rental that he didn't have to give up any of his top assets to acquire. If it doesn't work and I don't think it will...he will trade McGrady and try to get all his ducks in a row to try and re-sign Yao and go after one of the top dogs of 2010.
Listen I understand McGrady isn't the answer here. But Artest isn't either. I think some of you need to stop being prisoners of the shiny new toy. The guy just doesn't understand the concept of team ball. When games like Chicago happen in the first round don't come crying on this board. You all know exactly what you have in Artest. Like I said...I am ok with him now b/c there is no McGrady and he gives us a chance that we wouldn't have had with McGrady out. But he is not a long term solution for this team.

If Rockets get out of the 1st round, Artest will be re-signed easily. We will also trade Tmac or try too.
If we don't make the playoff or lose in the 1st round. Chances ate we let him walk or sign and trade.

Re: Thank you Tracy, I really mean it
This is how I see it.
Playoffs or not Artest is gone. We have a Sign and Trade with a team, and get someone decent from a team. Then we trade T-Mac's contract for a borderline allstar or better. All who are good with or without the ball in their hands, and we do not worry about 2010. And/or maybe sign Bibby with the MLE.

No one thinks that Artest is the ideal solution for the present or the long-term, but Morey will not simply let him walk (which is the main point of my argument). Regardless of what happens in 2010, the Rockets need to play one more year of competitive basketball before 2010.
There are two reasons why we have a chance of resigning Artest.
1. Only about one-third of the league is projected to be under the salary cap next season. Moreover, with the economy struggling, no team will give Artest the max. If this past trade deadline has indicated anything, it is that teams are aiming to build a good team while being fiscally responsible.
2. Since we are over the cap for 2009, Artest appears to be the most approachable while he's certainly one of the most talented players in FA pool. And as mentioned earlier, we also have his Bird Rights which will help.
Bird Rights do not always equate to a max contract. If Morey is looking at 2010, he can get Artest to sign a one-year contract for an amount that still keeps us under the tax. Of course the luxury tax will depend on Stern's measuring stick, but I think $10m sounds feasible. And we can always do a sign-n-trade if there's a demand for Artest.
p.s.: I think a trade for Baron Davis is the worst we could have done. It's a bad investment and could jeopardize our cap space and any future transaction. There's just too much financial risk involved.

Re: Thank you Tracy, I really mean it
What I don't understand is how alot of folks say Artest doesn't fit into this team or do people say Artest doesn't fit in this team because of T-mac??????
As of right now, I rather we keep Artest. He can play both ends of the court. Alot of people hate it when Artest takes some dumb shots but the truth is, every player who played ISO took bad shots (Francis to T-mac). How quick we forget about T-mac's ill advised long ass jumpers when the game is on the line with 2 mins to go. Or Francis crazy circus shots that bounce of the rim.
I think he fits in just fine with this current team, especially without T-mac.
We are going to our hardest schedule, so we will see what Artest brings. Personally if we sweep the Jazz this season, we sign Artest for that 1 reason. lawl.

And everyone wants them not to do it, or wants them out. Why not get a star that doesnt have poor shoot selection? We rather see Artest post up, because if he is having an off night... You will really see get rid of Artest threads.
