Who scares you in the postseason???

Post#1 » by 87BlazerMan » Thu Mar 5, 2009 1:32 am

I'm taking an unscientific poll of all possible WC playoff teams. Who would you hate to see your team draw in the first round (if you make it) and why? Are some teams just too good? Do you match up bad with some teams? Who scares you . . .

As a Blazer fan these are teams I'd love to avoid (top being the most scary). *Note - I'm copying this word for word on all 9 teams forums. I'm not trying to flame anyone!

1. Spurs - too good for us, too experienced, and we've yet to play them when they're at full strength.
2. Lakers - they'd probably win - especially with home court - but I'd rather watch the LA/PDX rivalry get reborn than a slow, boring, sobering series with SA.
3. Rockets - just a bad match-up for us and I really don't want to watch Artest going at Roy for a whole series.
4. Mavs - Same as Rockets, bad match-up. Kidd would abuse Blake and Sergio.
5. Hornets - I'd love to beat these guys, but they have us in the experience category, they have an MVP caliber PG, and David West plays great against us. This is probably the team I would hate to lose to the most and we are definitely capable of losing to them.
6. Jazz - I think we could beat Utah, especially if we had homecourt. And if we do play them it will have that rivalry feel, Roy could end all that "better/worse than Deron" talk once and for all, and if we did knock them out of the playoffs it would be extreeeeemely satisfying.
7. Suns - No Amare, no problem. Shaq is playing out of his mind right now, but with a healthy Oden this would be a very fun series!
8. Nuggets - The only thing that worries me about this matchup is Chauncey's playoff experience. Luckily I think we are a much better team and we can make Chauncey a non-factor. Mostly I just think we are better than them, period.

So who is it Rockets fans? Who scares you???

We are scared of teams with a shooting big man. But then again we can handle them. Next comes a strong, smart PG...

So obviously we do not want Utah in a playoff series, but I think we can take them. Thats all I can really think of with LA and SAS tying for 2nd.

Boston/LA scares me due to the love they get from the media/league/refs. Utah scares me only b/c they have a "mental" edge on us, I think. It could be a good thing though b/c it means our players will play harder. Other than that, every other team in the west falls into the same category. If you think about it, all the teams in the west are really good and could beat one another on any given day.

i think stern and his referee goons will have their way with the tv rating. they'll likely have us play against our rival jazz. the sun will miraculously make the final playoff seat because the nba has everlating love for kobe and shaq. then there will be a rematch between the lakers and celtic for the championship.

Oh, and no one else really. I think we match up well with the Spurs and Lakers, and are just better than the other teams. Utah is a bad matchup that plays to every single one of our weaknesses.

That said, I still don't think we're winning anything this year. How's that for coherency?

Only the Jazz. With Battier/Artest it isn't that hard to lock down on perimeter defense, Yao is a mismatch for a lot of teams, but personally I'm most scared of the Jazz.

I am only scared of the Jazz because they have such a good home record and in part its because there crowd really gets into it.

Other than that I am not worried about the matchups. You guys make it seem like we got blown out. We had our chance to win the game last night. We won 2 games at home (don't even say injuries, we had injuries too) and Paul Millsap was having Boozer like numbers.

In the past playoffs we had injuries (Rafer and Yao) and in 06-07 it was just the T-mac and Yao show with (Chuck hayes, Ryan bowen, Juan Howard and various other folks who couldn't start for other teams)

LA - would destroy us but we're probably not going to face them in the 1st round
SA - they are better than us as well but we match well
DEN/POR/DAL - we match up well would be a good series
PHX - I don't think they are going to make the playoffs and even if they do we're not going to play them
UTAH - if we had homecourt we have a chance but we do not match up well here
NO - don't match up as well as DEN/POR/DAL but winnable series IMO

Believe it or not... IMO we have a better chance at beating the Lakers than the Jazz. Due to matchups

The Jazz just play us really well, and despite the fact that they aren't a good defensive team, we never seem to be able to shoot when we are playing them.

Other than them, I wouldn't want to play the Lakers, mostly because they just have so much offensive fire power that would just wear us out over a 7 game series.

Everyone else is pretty beatable, IMO.

gamewise we can win a championship, but with the league BS we wont win a series. unless we pull some magic shoot and become a favorite.

I want Nuggets, Blazers, Mavs or Suns.
Rather not play Spurs, Lakers, Jazz or Hornets.

Injury is a biggest scare for the Rockets. Agree?

Lakers, then Jazz.. don't know why, I think Rockets are so much more talented than Jazz, yet they got our number.
