Offseason Trade?Houston/Orl
Im a Magic fan and I wanted you guys thoughts on this proposed trade I came up with.
Hou:T-mac
Orl:R.Lewis,Gortat
You guys get a Allstar forward for a finished T-mac,the only negative is he would be your free-agent signing for T-mac expiring contract. You also get a backup center who would start on most teams.
pg:Brooks,Lowry
sg:Artest,Wafer,Barry
sf:Lewis,Battier
pf:Scola,Landry,Hayes
c:Yao,Gortat
That looks like a Championship contending roster to me,you have good depth at every position.
Deal or No Deal?

Re: Offseason Trade?Houston/Orl
Hmm, salaries aside it's not a bad deal. Problem with Lewis though is that the last thing we need is another guy who lives at the 3 point line. I'm perfectly content with our starting lineup, but I would love to have a guy like VC off the bench who can come in and get his points wherever he wants them...unfortunately I don't think Shard fits that bill. Gortat is an interesting prospect because we could really use a backup C, and everytime I've seen him get adequate PT then he produces. I still think we can net something better with a 21 million dollar expiring contract, and if not then the 2010 FA market has more enticing opportunities then Rashard Lewis. Definitely not a bad offer though.

Want NO PART of Lewis' contract. Plus Roosk, he can post up. He has a nice turn around. Though he is a excellent 3pt. Shooter. I think he is leading the league. Gorat would be an excellent pick up.

Absolutely not. If we get Lewis and his atrocious contract, that means we can't resgin Artest and Scola.

I'd rather let Artest walk or be traded for a better deal and I think we really need to resign scola

Scola's not a free agent until next season.

I know that. But Lewis' horrendous season lasts until what? 2014?
His salary alone will handicap any team's cap.

The way you worded it made it seem as we just have to sign Scola now.
Oh I know about Lewis' contract.

Re: Offseason Trade?Houston/Orl
I will say this now(like others before me). Lewis will cripple the magic with his contract. They will not be able sign talented players to team with D12 to get over the hump. They'll have trouble keeping the players they already have this offseason.

Re: Offseason Trade?Houston/Orl
Gortat can't be included in any trade as he's a FA after the season, unless it was a sign-n-trade'.
But if we assume this is about Orlando unloading Lewis' contract-even tho it would kill Orlando's cap next yr!-the trade can be done as Lewis for McGrady straight up.
I wouldn't do it,but for fun here would be reasons for Hou to do it.
The team would shave some $4mil off the cap, leaving some $8mil to offer Artest and another $2mil to fill out roster.
Lewis would be a SF w/the Rockets making Battier expendable. Battier could prob be traded for some combination of good young players and draft picks.(Portland really wants him, their 09 First and Webster,Rodriguez in a delayed trade would be pretty decent. Rodriguez would be easy to move.)
$4mil trade Exception.
Makes it easy to promote 09 season as a new era.
Rashard can play PF in a small ball line-up.
Rashard is a far superior scorer to Battier.

Re: Offseason Trade?Houston/Orl
I think there is about a 0.9999% chance that HOU swaps T-Mac for Lewis. Lewis is not a morreyball type player.

If you want anyone from the Magic, you want Turkoglu. He's the better player and a more rounded player.

Lewis has been better than Turkoglu all season thats why Rashard Lewis was a ALL STAR,Turk has had a down year and he almost cost us the game lastnight against Boston.

Re: Offseason Trade?Houston/Orl
The Rockets would rather Turk due to his playmaking skills, ability to get to rim if needed, and his shooting range and somewhat clutchness.

OT: Do you guys think this rejuvenated Shaq could help us win a championship more then this regressing Yao? Imagine a deal that would send Yao to Phoenix for Shaq this summer. What do you guys think? Any strings to be pulled?

Shaq with OUR training crew = He'll be out most of the season.
Losing all of our revenue that Yao brings in = failure.
Is there anymore that is need to be said?
