We have no system, no system at all.
Honestly I am not being mad from the last game against Jazz. we deserve a loss and that says it all.
Somebody mentioned on the board about "butter and bread" plays, and it dawned on me that we never had any "butter and bread" play at all! we are a team of talent but we never had any system, and only with a system we get "butter and bread" plays.
look at our offense, it's such a shameful thing. there is no execution, or should we say there is no plan, no coaching? we are not going anywhere in the playoffs if we play like a bunch of bums, as artest jacks 3s, brooks thundering away leaving Yao eating his dust and panting his guts out. i found no smartness ever in display.
lets talk bout it fellows

The system Rockets need is a way to defend opponent big men who have mid-range jumper.
You can *NOT* leave jumpers uncontested, especially big men who live on shooting jumpers.
Face it, Okur and Boozer's game is jumper. That's their strength. You should never never
ignore guarding opponent player's area of strength.
This is why the Jazz is Rockets' headache, regular season and playoff.

Offensively, practice with that freakin' lob pass to Yao "Shawn Bradley" Ming.
If he takes less than 20 shot attempts per game, scold him, call him China Ma'am or something.
If he can't beat the fronting defense, he is a liability on the court because of his
turtle-like speed.

Jazz is a team of hard disciplines and solid execution, though not as much talent as muscle. Spurs too. Lakers less so but equally disciplined.

If all she desires it to be an ultimate team player, than leave him alone. but hey! as a team player he is not even as good as james white, so maybe we should part ways with him!

we win by talent and luck, never by good running of system. true winning is a cure for all, but lets face it, we are not going any further than last year if we play like this.

Re: We have no system, no system at all.
Rafer use to run some sort of system, but T-mac never conforms, then Ron Artest jacks jumpers, so the rest of the team was like "oh fck it, why should I play the system", and things never worked out.
now with brooks the Ron issue carries on, and brooks is a speed addict, whose repertoire consists of running faster than the ball, and attempting layups from behind the board.
And Rick Adelman is never really tough enough to inject any discipline into either T mac or Artest, so I dont think we are ever going to see any system at all.
Farewell, 2nd round. sick.

Re: We have no system, no system at all.
Ric system is based on BB IQ, its free motion. Its one of the main reasons why we look so sloppy during crunch time minutes. I always said this team needs to develop a P&R play, AB does a pretty bad job on P&R plays, he doesn't always see the open man to pass to.
Yao overall is not being aggressive the last few games, he is basically averaging like 2-3 FTA, which is half of what he is averaging the whole season. Lately the Rockets are simply not giving him a lot of touches, to let him do anything with the ball. The problem I have with this is, Artest is dominating the ball offensively. Yao's overall touch of the ball has dramatically dropped vs the start of the All-star break. Its no longer the inside out game, its more like run Ric's offense(jacked up 3 point shot) and if we don't have anything try to go to Yao (problem is the ball goes to Artest or AB and they typically will shoot the ball).
Despite Yao shooting 6-16, 4 of them were offensive rebounds. In reality he only had 12 FGA last night. Rockets haven't been forcing the ball to Yao lately, but if we don't milk the horse, I highly doubt we will get out of the 1st round. Goes back to the system. But I also tend to think Rockets are asking Yao to be less aggressive for the playoffs. I mean knock on wood, Yao's been injured for the last 3 years. So I am hoping the reason why the Rockets are not going to Yao a lot is because they want the rest of the team to develop and allow Yao not work hard to get ready for the playoffs. (Cross my finger and hope this is true)
If I had to pick one play as our bread and butter play, its the 3 point ball. If its not going in, we aren't winning. Jazz took 14 vs 25 3 pointers, if we took 9 inside the paint attempts, this game would have been a lot closer. Obviously if we made all 9 extra 3 pointers, we would win the game. Live by the 3 die by the 3.
Last night we had a lot of missed layups that should of went in. Wafer missed 2, Lowry missed a boat load. 2 guys who typically can finish around the basket, failed to finish. I really thought the turning point in the 4th quarter was when both Lowry and Wafer missed 3 layups in a row, that allowed the Jazz go on a 15-4 run at the end of the game.
Jazz cutters >>>>> Rocket Cutters Brewer was getting the ball so easily in the paint with DW making those nice passes. I wish AB would learn from DW.........

I don't know what Rick was trying to do last night when he started the game, and when Von Wafer started sprinting down the court 3 times, that's not what you want to do. We should have slowed things down, but the Refs are also to blame for this, Yao, Ron, and Aaron got hacked multiple times going to the hole and still got 0 fouls.
Oh well, it's the Utah Jazz, you know they've got home-court advantage at their home, especially when your team is god-awful on the road 0-8 against .500+ teams in the west, that's just BAD, and I personally can't wait to see how they do against @ Portland, Denver, San Antonio, Phoenix, Dallas, and LAL
I'd personally love it if they get ****.

1) Refs weren't that bad (either way) last night. Stop kidding yourself.
2) Shooting big men isn't the issue with the Jazz. Our defense was actually better (and has been all season) with Yao because he guards the rim. Utah got the majority of their points in the paint when Yao was out and that's (part of) what killed us. You live with Boozer shooting 20-ft'ers the same way you live with guards shooting off the PnR with Yao's man.
3) Yao's got to demand the ball. It's not on the team, it's on Yao.
4) Ron and Wafer play with no system but the other players do try to play within Adelman's system. Brooks is still learning. Right now he doesn't have much of a passing game but he needs to at least be able to read game situations better and direct traffic. That's one thing Rafer does better than Brooks and what I'm hoping he improves on. I really think the issue here is we need a PG to rein in the team a bit (e.g. Ron/Wafer) and Brooks is young and doesn't seem to have that personality.

I was also thinking the same thing. I think they're trying to pace Yao to the playoffs and to see what the other players can do without him. IF you watched the game, Yao only got like 1-2 touches at the start of the game out of like 10 possessions. We also tried to run fast which to me felt weird. I honestly do think that Adelman wanted to try this out to see if we could use this method to attack them in the playoffs. I think we'll look at what works and what didn't (one man fastbreaks) and improve on that if we play them in the playoffs.
We can run but it has to be under control. we need to get them into the penalty sooner. We were too dependent on the 3 last night.

Like i said above, RA is probably trying to ease up on Yao's minutes and try new tactics against the Jazz. At this point in the season, I'm sure he's using these games only as "practice" for the playoffs. You'll probably see us play differently against playoff teams to see what works/doesn't work and play our grind it out def/off against lesser teams.

I think brooks and battier were the only two efficient offensive players last night. Scola too, i guess, but he didnt get enough touches. This is a hard game to dwell on/critique b/c RA was trying his schemes. Hell, even barry was out there instead of Yao at the end of the game with that small lineup. RA is experimenting and didn't care about the win/loss IMO.

Re: We have no system, no system at all.
Our role players are just plain stupid (including Ron Artest). When coach said everything should go to Yao. They just passed the ball to Yao and stood there watching. They even tried to force the passes and resulted in turnover. When they started learning how to play off of Yao we got better, then they went back to the old way and ignored Yao completely. I stop watching last night game after 1st quarter. They are playing faster pace which is not good for Yao. When Yao is there they ignored him. Yao is in the right post and they swing the ball to the left? WTF?

Re: We have no system, no system at all.
As someone said in a post before, Artest is the main liability in offense. Don't get me wrong, he is important and he makes big shots from time to time, but his ballhoggin' causes a lot of missed chances. Not only because of the shots he miss, but because in the few ocassions he makes a pass, he only does it when the clock is choking him, hence other players might or might not be in a good position.
Second to that comes Brooks. Obviously, he is young and needs development, but right now the guy looks like he has a rocket in his ass. And nothing more. I was reading an article about him where the writer compared him to Parker and the only thing I could think about is the writer never saw Parker play in his entire life. In short, he needs to be in control, he needs to read the game, and basically he needs to know that 9 out of 10 times opposing defense isn't made of smoke, they're real body to crash against.
Personally, I see Yao and Scola absolutely misused. Both of them will provide 50%+ shooting, and they both have to beg for a freaking pass in the post and mainly have the responsability to solve the brickfests, trying to catch a rebound to make a shot. It's like 7-8 years old kids basketball: the smaller guys shoot, the big dumb ones have to get the rebound.
So, back to the thread subject, yes, there's a very noticeable lack of system. On the other side, at least it works way better than when T-Mac was playing, and that's quite a big surprise

We stole the ball numerous times and failed to score, we had how many 2nd chance opportunities? And how about Artest shooting 0 for ? Yao too but not that bad. This team can do better without Adelman and Artest.

Don't forget about offensive boards and their conversion points.....
