Adelman for Coach of the Year?

I have to think that he is a solid contender. I can't think of another coach this season who has had to put up with as much adversity in terms of injuries, off-court tantrums and shootings and still found a way to be as successful as this franchise has been in '08-09.
Looking at the first few months of the season, it would have been easy to see the Rockets mailing it in seeing as how they did not know who would play from game to game. Instead, young guys stepped up, lineups shifted and as of right now the Rockets are looking at potentially finishing as Southwest division champions - the division where half of the playoff teams in the West come from.
I don't think that he'll get enough respect nationally from the voters, but in my mind Adelman should get this honor.

You are absolutely correct, Adelman in my eyes deserves it more than any other canidate but from what I am hearing the canidates who are being considered more seriously are as followed.
Stan Van Gundy: After losing Jameer most people discounted the Magic of any possibility of making a splash in the playoffs. But with the front office making the move to obtain Alston, the Magic are fighting for a high seed in the east.
Note: Shouldn't this be a GM of the year consideration, not coach? Was giving up a first rounder for Alston that good of a move?
Mike Brown: Cleveland is fighting for the best record in the NBA, utilizing role players efficiently like D.West, D.Gibson, A.Varejao, has really put them in the upper echelon. Turning MoWill into an All Star point, has also helped his chances.
Note: Lebron James? It was only a matter of time. Shep the door man could be calling the shots there and they would still be a playoff team.
Erick Spoelstra: Miami went from bottom tier to top of the line and competing for home court advantage. I really think that has more to do with Dwayne Wade having an amazing season than anything
I just do not understand how Rick isn't getting more credit...

I wouldn't call the Heat "top of the line". They're a pretty good team that has a chance to win every night because of D-Wade, but they're still only barely floating above .500 in the east.

COY traditionally has gone to a coach of a team w/ the best or one of the best regular seasons who more or less did better than most people expected. That said it's probably going to go to Brown or SVG.

probably wont win it... if Yao turns out to be injured...
especially in that Sucramento game... where he put Yao back in when we basically had the game won...
knowing that Yao was hurting/sore prior to the game...
basically he will be looked at as coach willing overplay and to burn out his players to get wins....this year....

Who the hell is coaching the Hawks? They have HOME COURT in the playoffs. The freakin' Hawks! They should name the trophy after that coach.

there are others who deserve it more than Adelman.... indeed we had some injuries but this team has depth. if we didn't have the sort of depth and Adelman can conjure what the position the rockets are in today, then he should be COY. To be honest, i think he deserved it more last year than this year. What's the special thing he did this time that made headlines? Last year he got the 22 wins and it was without Yao (credit to Team-Mac which pulled it out the 22). This year i feel that he has nothing much to shout about except the problems T-mac and some injuries this time (the injuries ain't that big of a deal as compared to what the rockets had suffered earlier). Furthermore, he seemed to be caught clueless a few times. Also for some strange reason, he is one coach that likes to work his players like Yao to the maximum. So i think COY belongs to someone else. I agree that the Hawks' coach should be a candidate.. strange that no one knows his name... hahah.

Mike Woodson.
Personally, my vote goes to Mike Brown in Cleveland.

Rockets aren't being hyped afaik, makes any offseason awards unlikely. They're dumb anyway.

this award is cursed anyway, the coach who wins gets fired not long after winning it
2 years ago Sam Mitchell won - fired
3 years ago Avery Johnson won - fired
4 years ago Mike D'Antoni - not fired but wasn't seriously asked to stay
5 years ago Hubie Brown won - fired
Rick Carlisle in Detroit, Larry Brown in Philly, Doc Rivers in Orlando, Mike Dunleavy in Portland, etc.
Don Cheney won this award in Houston in 1991 and then was fired and replaced by Rudy T a year and half later

Of course, we should also look at how long coaches who DIDN'T win stayed with their teams.
Just about every team, except SA, LAL, NJN, and UTA, has replaced its coach over the last 3 years.

Apparently Hubie Brown did a list of his top 7 candidate and listed Spolestra on that list and not Adelman. More proof that the people that vote for these awards do not watch anything other than national TV games and the Heat are always on TV. Nobody deserves this award more than Adelman.

sloan has never won the award in his 20 years. phil jackson and gregg popovich have only won it once each despite all their championship rings. so not winning the award = success.

3. Rick Adelman

It seems like Mike Brown is becoming the flavor for the award. I think Adelman should finish in the top 3-4 though.
