Mutombo is done. Yao needs a backup.
I think Marcus Camby is da one.

When is Camby a free agent?

1;Camby would be great, but it's less likely
2. Guys like Etan Thomas or Tony Battie is more suitable for a lot less than Camby
3. Camby going to be a UFA next season

Camby is a starting calibre C and accordingly is going to ask for starting C pay. We just need a good back-up C for next year's playoffs and we can probably find that in the draft and/or continue to devlop Dorsey and see what we have there. This is preferred option IMO because this allows for the flexibility of rookie contracts (team options, low pay scale) rather than having to pay a back-up C for multiple years of guaranteed money.

Having a back-up C in the regular season next year isn't really essential unless Yao goes down or something.

With the inflated cost of signing a center, we might be better of buying a draft pick and take a chance on a big man.

Could always try something for the minimum, but Camby wants to get paid.

He drops his price and willing to take half the MLE sure. But I doubt he would be. Probably about that time that if Morey can swing a draft pick that we use it on a big guy...however raw he may be.

Agreed. Considering the state of the league/economy, signing a backup for any kind of "big" money is dumb. I'm sure there are some decent d-leaguers, if not draftees, that can block shots and rebound. That's mainly what we need from our backup C considering we have lowry/wafer/tmac coming off the bench.

Id like to have Camby here but I doubt he would want to be a back up unless he got some massive deal

Sportsfan215,
No.
Longer version, hell no! (The Rockets are not assured of re-signing Artest,so w/your proposal the Rockets could end up w/no perimeter defenders, another PF on a team full of PFs and a young player in Thorton who struggles shooting the 3 and defending. I live in LA and I've watched a bunch of Clipper games. Unless Thorton puts in major hours each day working on his game,he's going to be just another hi-flying wing who can't be counted on. The Rockets essentially traded Rudy Gay for Battier, and Thorton is no Rudy Gay.)
