http://www.nba.com/news/referee.htmlShockingly, ESPN has us at a 21% chance to win tonight. Wonder how they figured that.
So step right up and place your "bets" on the following, closest wins a point for each, ties result in multiple points, and the winner gets a cookie or something!
# "incorrect" fouls against Yao:
# techs Rockets:
# times a Rocket is forced to the bench in foul trouble:
FT Discrepancy:
# BAD gamebreaking calls (allowing one team [cough] to take/extend a considerable lead)
# BAD 4th quarter calls
Maybe if I'm lucky this thread is an Iggy-style reverse jinx.
Edit: JUMPIN' GUMDROPS!!

I hate that dude...I really feel certain refs should not be able to ref certain teams..

I'm game, but make the prize a taco or some sort of marsupial that I can train to fetch me beer:
2 - # "incorrect" fouls against Yao:
0 - # techs Rockets:
3 - # times a Rocket is forced to the bench in foul trouble:
15 - FT Discrepancy: (remember, the Lakers will most likely attack the rim a lot more, therefore Kobe himself will have about 20 FT's. Careful Rockets, don't breathe on him! We don't want him catching the FT Flu!)
5 - # BAD gamebreaking calls (allowing one team [cough] to take/extend a considerable lead)
5 - # BAD 4th quarter calls (this is where the fun will be had, the rest of the game will probably be tolerable until the 4th, when they will turn on the Stern-o-Meter and rack up the magnificently bad calls)

One more for the NBA orchestrating series. Lakers in trouble...Stern sends his lap dog to right things and ensure a Laker win. You know what that tells me...the NBA is worried we might actually be better than LA...or at the very least match up with them well enough to beat them.
Gotta love this league we are all fans of. Hardcore fans like the ones existing on realGM probably won't stop watching the NBA but the league continues to lose casual fans left and right and center b/c of things just like this.

David Stern: "DAMNIT. My Lakers lost the first game, perhaps we underestimated the Rockets. Can you officiate game 2 so we can even the series?"
Joey Crawford: "I'M ON MY WAY, MY MASTER."

I'm actually not a fan of this league or Slave master Stern, I'm only a fan of the rockets and have been for 20 years now. Man times flies. I liked Lebron too before he started getting phantom calls and ticky tack calls that kobe always gets.....I will not buy into the Stern-created Hype.....and this WWE-NBA

Heh it's not new either, my dad's been complaining about that for at least 15 years. Plenty of others for longer than that. Funny how the league stays popular as a "legit" sport, all things considered.
That said, more predictions!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_CrawfordIn the 2009 Playoffs, Crawford created considerable controversy with questionable calls in the second game of the 1st round series between the Houston Rockets and Portland Trailblazers. Major outcry from Rockets fans came from the final 1.3 second of the game. The Rockets were down by two points, and Rudy Fernández tripped and fell down while attempting to take a throw in from out of bounds. Fernandez clearly knocked the ball out of bounds and was not touched by a Rockets player. Crawford who was only a few feet away automatically called the foul on Houston despite no evidence of contact, sealing the game for the Portland Trailblazers.[13]
The Rockets defeated the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 1 of their 2nd round series. This victory was very surprising to most analysts, as they had all picked the Lakers to win the series in 5 (some said 6) games. On the morning of Game 2, Crawford was announced to be head referee of the game. The N.B.A., which has been under attack by claims of corruption, is in some ways validating the words of these conspiracy-theorists. Crawford has a well-known history of bad-calls and grudges against teams (see Tim Duncan incident). It has also been speculated that David Stern (N.B.A. Commissioner) is trying to make a "Lebron vs. Kobe" Finals. To many, the appointment of Joey Crawford for Game 2 is his way of helping this cause.

JOEY CRAWFORD: "Rockets fans in Los Angeles are sparsely populated. If my whistles are swift, I will foul the Rockets out quickly, Master. The humiliation of Game 1 will never happen again."
DAVID STERN: "Move against Yao Ming first...you then will have no difficulty taking the Rockets to seven games, where you will ultimately throw the series into the Lakers' favor."
JOEY CRAWFORD: "At last we will reveal ourselves to the NBA. At last we will have revenge."
DAVID STERN: "You have been well trained, my young apprentice. They will be no match for you. It is too late for them to stop us now. Everything is going as planned. There WILL be a Lakers - Cavs final."

3 "incorrect" fouls against Yao: Yao will get 2 fouls in the 1st qtr guaranteed will come back in the 3rd pick up a ticy tac then a legit one that will send him to the bench.
3 techs Rockets: 2 illegal defensive calls and 1 on Ron for just being Ron
4 times a Rocket is forced to the bench in foul trouble: Yao will go out in the first then sit will come back briefly in the 2nd no calls but then will pick up 2 early in the 3rd so he will be forced to the bench twice. Scola will be forced to the bench once because this is scola. and Carl will have to be put on the bench once too.
FT Discrepancy: 24 to 12 in lakers favor we will get to the rim but no calls will be made
2 BAD gamebreaking calls allowing one team [cough] to take/extend a considerable lead)( Batt will try to take a charge and be called for a block. Ron will have the ball and push off for an offensive foul
3 BAD 4th quarter calls: the ones mentioned above will all occur in the 4th qtr which will destroy the momentum. the last one is the lakers will lose the ball out of bounds and they will say its still their ball

HAHA...thats awesome.
You know its frustrating. But what can we do. The networks want LeBron and Kobe...the league...
Nobody cares about the fans of the other teams those teams have to go through. As far as the NBA is concerned we don't matter. Yet we keep purchasing League Pass and tickets to watch our teams play. But like I said..what can we do. As long as Laker fans, Cavs fans and Celtics fans exist the NBA will exist. So if we stop watching the league goes on....and we miss out on basketball.
I just can't see how anyone can even question what the NBA is trying to do here...sending Joey Crawford to referee a Laker game in which the Lakers are not only down 0-1 but have lost the HC advantage....of course they are trying to ensure the Lakers win tonight and he'll probably do game 4 depending on the outcome of game 3. Him or another "company man". Another part of the frustration is that the Lakers DON"T need this help. They so much more talented than we are...they can beat us fair and square...they don't need the officiating help but they still will get it.

If you guys are here fretting about Crawford, then what will you do when they send Steve Javie and Dick Bavetta for games 3 & 4 ? We've had success with them also.
Come on guys, you guys are some of the most knowledgeable fans here on GM, don't sink to that level. Only the Celtic fans complain more about the refs than anybody especially MaxwellSmart.....dude is a head case if you don't believe go read their board.
We've had our troubles with officials too, mainly Tony Brothers the guy has it in for us. But nobody on our board complained about it too much, he screwed us but it is what it is.
