Do the Rockets have a draft pick in June?
Maybe not a 1st rounder unless the team does a trade. What about a 2nd rounder?

Rockets #23 pick went to Sacramento
Rockets #53 pick went to San Antonio

Ok, that says it all.

But really, can the Rockets trade player(s) on current roster for a draft pick?

Rockets are hosting a session on players that are on the borderline of 1st round (25-30 picks?). Morey had expressed the rockets are looking to buy a draft pick and even a 1st round pick if they like certain player(s).

Just follow the session in Houston and we may get some hints on their intention.

Here is the portion on the draft workout to be held in Houston:
Boston, Memphis, Minnesota, Miami, Portland, and San Antonio are among the teams crashing a draft workout held by the Rockets in Houston this weekend. Per new NBA rules, any team can attend another team's workout as long as they share in the cost. The workout will include about 40 players, predominantly college seniors. Only six players are allowed on the floor at a time, which means no five-on-five full-court play. This is the first time teams have decided to take advantage of the new rule. "It's marginal guys, second-round guys that may be drafted," said an NBA source about the Houston workout. "It's a way to save money and utilize the rule that allows other teams to come." The Celtics, who have only the 57th overall pick in this year's draft, are expected to begin workouts in Waltham soon.

We may buy a second rounder, but for all intents and purposes I think that our "rookies" next year will be James White & Joey Dorsey. Guess we can call them redshirts.

Some things to consider if you are the Rockets.

You can't trade away consecutive yr's Firsts.
Minn,OKC and Memphis will be under cap and have shown they are willing to take on a modest contract in exchange for a future First.
Brian Cook will be $3.5mil worth of wasted salary next season.
But if the Rockets could get a First in this draft,they could prob package Cook,cash and the '10 First and send him to Minn,OKC or Memphis.

Dorsey was huge in Memphis.
Morey stated the team was not happy w/Dorsey's work ethic or attitude.
Perhaps Dorsey and some cash might get Memphis' #27 First.

He did? Do you know where? A quick glance didn't show it.

Morey said he was gonna buy a draft pick right? Do the Suns still sell their first round picks?

Yea I heard Morey was going to buy us a draft..I do not however think it will matter because picks will not get any playing time next year.

Buying a low draft pick on a player with good potential that turn out to be decent is a sure way to improve your squad and accumulate your trade assets. Low draft pick mean low starting salary too.

I'm listening to his interview on 610, he says "expect us to be busy, both in free agency and especially the draft."

Of interest he also says he'll "listen" to any offers and the Owner has ok'd going into the Lux Tax for the right player. Briefly mentioned MLE,but in such a way that implies he'll be splitting it among a couple of players. Was asked about Rocket draftees in Europe,said Leunen and Newley would be invited to camp.
Something to keep in mind are the Trade exemptions the Rockets have,mainly the Francis $2.7mil and the Alston $1.5mil TEs.

the TEs will make it interesting. I wonder what Morey will do with them.
No doubt Morey's appointment has made offseasons more interesting. CD's offseasons can never be compared to Morey's.

Read from CF site on an interview with Morey. It is said Morey is looking at guys from pick 28th to 45th.

Have a logical insight on whom Morey are looking. But as the author said at the end, read this with a grain of salt. What we know is that Morey tend to have a plan in place and know what he is doing.
