Tmac at PG?

Post#1 » by fk » Sun Jun 21, 2009 4:14 am

What do you guys think about playing tmac at PG? This is assuming he comes back healthy and buys into the role. He has the skills necessary to play point and it allows us to to play our 5 best guys together. I know it probably would never happen because he probably would never buy into it, but just for fun, what would be the strengths and weaknesses of this lineup?

pg: tmac
sg: battier
sf: artest
pf: scola

So you want Mcgrady and and his surgically repaired knee chasing point guards.....around the court

Yeah T-Mac isn't going to be guarding PGs anytime soon.

We could probably do it for short stretches, like late in the 4th quarter when the game is on the line or something.

Don't mean to be snarky but once the ball was brought up the court,T-Mac WAS the PG.
If he comes back healthy,Brooks,Lowry, whoever will bring up the ball and defend the other point, but T-Mac will assume the PG duties.

Tmac doesn't have the leg to guard quicker guards.

So, nope.

This was a bad idea five years ago, and it's a bad idea today.

the 04/05 tmac could handle the starting pg, but now he cant unless he can get healhty which i highly doubt. now even if he gets healthy, hes old, his legs could they keep up?

or they could have ron/shane guard the pgs. but still pgs are small and fast as hell so a 30yr old 6'8 220+ lb guarding a 6'1 190 is too much to ask for.

in nba2k you can do something like that.

Even if he can, why would you want him chasing around faster guys the whole game? It's stupid. He would just be tired by the 3rd quarter and be useless in the fourth.

I really think it could work if you put Shane on the PG defensively. It's a MUCH better option than paying him 20mil to come off the bench and whine and b*tch, or have Shane defer and come of the bench. TMac can run PG on offense, while he gaurds the SG's and Shane takes the PG's. IMO, it works out very well and causes a TON of mismatches. Say your playing the Lakers again, who guards who? Yao/Bynum, Kobe/Artest, Shane/Fisher(or Farmer), Ariza/TMac, Scola/Pau. But can you imagine Fisher having to guard Shane/Artest/TMAC?.. :)

haha geez kinda harsh, but you're definitely right, really wasn't thinking about it on the defensive end. How about this rotation as our "play big" lineup against teams w/o the super quick pg's. Against teams like Denver it could be interesting in limited minutes

Last night I was watching NBA TV.
Mike Fratello sorta trashed Tmac, saying he was never healthy,
and that he will miss the first 20-30 games of the 2009-2010 regular season.

If tracy is on the court with ron, shane and our point guard, tracy should guard the PF.
Considering his body, 6'9, long arms, a bit fat, and after the surgery, he may move slower than he used to.
Guarding PF is the best for tracy, remember he did a great job on Dirk seveal years ago, and he blocked Boozer by left hand on the post in the playoff, he has the ability.

True of Lazy McTracy. He already looks heavier than his ideal playing weight. If his knees don't bother him after the surgery then he is better suited for PF because of his size and length. He's already too slow to guard shooting guards and you guys want him to guard PG? Won't work dudes.

Dirk is weak and doesn't even play inside. Any 4 that has any kind of size or post up game will abuse Tmac all night at the 4. What's wrong with Tmac or Ron coming off the bench? Ronny did it last year.
