Nearly seven weeks after the Rockets were shocked by the injury that ended Yao Ming’s season, they were as stunned Wednesday to find it has not healed.

A bone scan late Wednesday evening showed that the immobilization of Yao’s left foot has not healed the hairline fracture he suffered May 8 during the Rockets’ second-round playoff series against the Los Angeles Lakers.

A statement released by the team said Yao and his doctors will consider other treatment options. Those could include anything from wearing a cast, rather than the walking boot used since the injury, to surgery.

yao's feet are ****. i wish he would retire from the nba and go play euroleague ball or something. 82 games + deep playoff runs is way too much for the guy.

Can't they just give him the same procedure Wolverine had? That way we won't have to worry about any of his bones breaking. It really seemed to work for Wolverine. And it gave him a bit of a mean streak too.

This is the most amusing not-really-funny thing I've ever seen in my life. I'm guilty-laughing my butt off at the moment.

Retire? Are you even a Rocket Fan. The real answer is you want him to bounce back so we can trade him if injuries continue to plague him and trust me even with his injuries, teams will want to sign him if he can play 20 minutes a game as backup C or even a 60+ game season(saving him for the playoffs)

Lord help us its a long summer still, plenty of time for Yao to heal up and get back to work. Worst case scenerio is he misses another 1-2 months during Regular Season, which is great. I rather he get injured early season than late season.

Yao will always be hampered by his physical stature, it's not really his fault, it's just the way he's built.

I have zero confidence that he'll ever be completely injury free for a full season.

The real question is when will the rockets organization make a move for a championship rather then money. It is clear we cannot rely on Yao to be available for the playoffs because these injuries are going to pop up all the time its the way his body is structured.

We now have the role players to win a championship, with the right superstars we could go all the way. Hopefully Yao makes a comeback and we look to move him because the center position is very hard to fill with him going down constantly, and it will only get worse

Yao is going to have foot problems his whole career. The real question actually is...when the hell are we gonna stop trying to put pieces around someone that is so easily broken. Can't build around Yao..not b/c he isn't a franchise player...but because he will always have injury problems and they will be severe foot problems.

If we can get Amare..I like that pairing with Scola especially if we get a legit big man coming off the bench the negate the size disadvantage we would have in the starting lineup.

Actually, Adelman was trying to get more players involved so we weren't dependent on any one player. Then people kept complaining why Yao wasn't getting the ball (even I said it at times), but it proved to be the right strategy by RA b/c look at how well we played at times when Yao went down. But two horses going down leaves for a really weak lineup and of course we'd lose to the champs.

I have a feeling Yao is going to have to have surgery again and will miss a lot of this next season. I hope it's not career ending, but it's a thought that runs in the back of my mind after i heard that it hasn't healed at all. =(

Iggy, if we get Amare, we'd probably trade Scola. I can't see having two upper-eschelon starting-quality PFs on the same team, especially not with Scola up for a contract extension or new contract after next season.

I've said before, I would rather have Scola than Stoudemire.

Stoudemire/Scola/Landry 09-10 - 23m; 10-11 - 28m; 11-12; 30m+ (dependent on Stoudemire extension)
Scola/Landry 09-10 - 6.75m; 10-11 - 12m; 11-12 - 14m

1st scenario, someone's getting traded
2nd scenario, we just lose the financial dollar-for-dollar production edge we've had on our best spot. If their production stays level, we're still only paying as much as we would be for a 2nd-tier A/S PF

Look on the bright side it's still early in the offseason so there's still plenty of time to recover. Plus that means less Yao overworking himself in the summer.

But we need to find a big time back-up C and cut Yao's minutes down to 25-30/gm and play him in spurts more instead of entire quarters. The team can survive in the regular season they've proven it time and time again, we just need to ease the strain on Yao and save him for the playoffs.

These type of problems will stay with him the rest of his career, he's 7"6 with a series of leg and knee injuries the past three seasons, fortunately he has time this summer to heal fully and be hopefully healthy by the start of the season.

Haha, same here. I dont know if I should keep laughing or say "no, that is not funny" and keep a straight face.

I feel for Yao and Rockets. They cant seem to catch a break whenever they have a franchise player. I still dont know how Rockets manage to be a threat in the 'West' with all those injuries. They making this sound like this could be the end of Yao. I wont count him out though. Many players have come back from injuries people thought they would not recover from.

I cannot possibly fathom that Yao's career is over. Hopefully with lots of rest, his foot will heal - even if it means he misses the 09/10 season.
