According to the same source that disclosed Terry Porter was about to be fired as Suns coach, the Rockets are leaning toward swapping Tracy McGrady's expiring $22M contract, Carl Landry and Aaron Brooks for Leandro Barbosa and Stoudemire, who owns an escape clause after next season and is demanding an extension this summer to waive it.

Suns contacted the Rockets by the way.

I'd do it. TMac is done, might as well get something useful for his contract. Especially considering the Yao news...

Actually Yao is done. So you better get something for McGrady's contract. If this trade is doable..I am all for it.

Yeah my friend just texted me about this. So now we have the number 1 and number 2 from the 02 draft. But where is Scola going to fit?

According to Chad Ford, Darryl Morey has contacted Grizzlies, Thunder, Kings and Timberwolves about trying to get into the lottery. Rockets are trying to trade Tracy McGrady and Aaron Brooks. Carl Landry and Shane Battier were also mentioned as possible trade pieces. The Rockets are also making a run at Amare Stoudemire.

I don't like what we are giving up, way too much IMO. Brooks still has plenty of time to grow and showed some good signs in the playoffs. Landry is a good compliment to Scola and is one of our most important bench players.

Barbosa hasn't been able to replicate his form from 2 years ago but I know he had personal issues so I don't know how he will fare. Stoudemire is a product of having an elite point guard and without Nash he wont be anywhere near as effective has he has been.

I agree with VC, on top of that i am very skeptical about the defensive presence being brought by amare and barbosa.

Unless theres something we dont know like were getting ricky rubio to play along side amare and barbosa then im not a big fan of this trade.

Id rather make a move for Bosh personally and then look for a true point guard. Bosh gets it done on his own amare is the recipient of many easy dunks due to the players around him (shaq nash etc).

I just personally think this isnt the greatest trade giving up two young talents and oneo f them whos already consistant off the bench in the landry and a huge expiring contract for another expiring contract and Barbosa. Not a big fan of this trade

Yeah that really does not make sense unless we're getting more back. I like Stat but not at the expense of landry/brooks. Barbosa sucks. Defensive liability and he can't really run an offense. He's just another spark off the bench, which we could have with Von.

I'd much rather give up Artest than Battier has he is clearly a smarter player and doesn't throw shots away like Artest does. Artest is hit or miss sometimes on offense, when hes hot hes great but he kills us when he's cold. I hope Morey sees something in the lottery that we don't because we look to be giving up a substantial amount and putting a heap of faith in a rookie. T-Mac's contract would be better served in acquiring a proven player or a few second level players.

We have a chance to trade someone that may not even be able to play next season for a perennial All-Star Power Forward, and a great combo guard with lightning speed and great touch(Brooks has that too).

I think shopping Brooks would be smart. I believe his value is HIGH right now, as high a it'll ever be. And TBH, Barbosa is every bit of a PG as Brooks is. Brooks hardly ever led us with assists and was never really a playmaker, Lowry is our best.

Dealing Landry is costly, but acquiring Amare would make up for it, as I assume Scola would be the first big off the bench. Getting cash and/or future picks would be something that we should get too.

If the goal is to create a tough matchup against the Lakers then this trade does that. Having two elite bigs could give us problems. Not to mention the defense of Artest and Battier. That will cause us problems. Im a Laker fan and I see that...

If we do get Amare, I'd like to see us maybe make a run for TJ Ford atleast then we have a proven point guard who might be able to accommodate for his point guard dependency.

True.

But Ric Bucher also commented on it recently on ESPNews saying that a trade with Amare is there.

Stoudemire has been disgruntled in Phoenix for a while now, and ESPN's Ric Bucher reported on Thursday that he will indeed be traded. The Suns would acquire two solid young players in Landry and Brooks, while gaining financial flexibility with T-Mac's expiring $22 million contract. So far nothing is official, but stay tuned throughout what promises to be a hectic draft day.

It's still a terrible deal and IMO is a step backwards from a championship.

This is a good trade. A lot of you guys knock Stat and Barbosa for lack of defense or whatever but it's not like Scola and AB are defensive stalwarts at their position.

There's really 4 factors with this trade:

1) The upside of Brooks and Landry - Brooks has upside potential but I wouldn't bet on him ever "getting it." There have been way way too many SGs in PG-bodies that never get it and I don't see Brooks ever being more than a one-way player (though a good one at that). I would consider Barbosa better now, but Brooks having the upside to possibly be better later but it's more or less a net wash IMO. Still getting better now is the idea. As for Landry I think he's pretty much peaked as a player more or less and wouldn't get PT anyway with Stat here.

2) Barbosa at the point - It didn't work in Phx, though he wouldn't really be asked to be "Nash-like" here. I think he can handle here, and we'd no longer have a defensive liability at this position with Barbosa and Lowry.

3) Defensive concerns w/ Scola/Stat frontcourt - This is a major concern but if the basketball gods keep Yao healthy we'd only have to see this 10-15 mins a game.

4) Is this all we can get for T-Mac's contract? - IMO there's no question the value of T-Mac's contract at the deadline will be greater, so would a deadline deal net more desperate and thus better offers?

Overall I would do this deal. A starting lineup of Yao/Stat/Battier/Artest/Barbosa, with quality players like Scola and Lowry coming off the bench? We still lack a legit wing closer but come on now fellas I got chills even typing that out!

edit: another good point mentioned above is that Brooks value is at an all time high after his playoff performance and for him (who Phx has always been high on) personally it would be the best time to trade him.

What I dislike about Amare is that he has never really been a playoff performer and at this point post season success is what matters the most.
