Morey allegedly offered Battier + Brooks for Ricky Rubio but was turned down by the Wolves.
It's from an NY source so i don't know how credible it is.

I have a hard time believing that we'd trade a team captain for a draft pick.
Granted, after the New York article, he's possibly at his peak in trade value, and likely to go downhill from here, but he's also the core of our defense and we have injury issues, so... It's not impossible that he's being mentioned, but I still can't believe for a draft pick, unless Morey's radar has this guy pegged as a super-sure thing somehow....... Even then, I can't see Morey offering Battier to Minnesota, who seems to still be more than a few pieces away from needing him.

Crap deal, for all we know Rubio will turn out to be a bust.

Eventho the package of Battier + Brooks may sound like alot for an unproven guard, i believe this rumor has some leg to it. We've all heard that Houston is one of few teams to be very interested in Rubio. We were consistently linked to rubio rumor eventhough we didnt even have a pick in this draft. If this isn't a brilliant smokescreen of epic proportion, then i believe Morey, like me, has developed a man crush over Ricky Rubio.
Now if we have a genuine interest in acquiring Rubio, the only assets we have that is high enough to get him is probably only Battier and Brooks. Wolves are under the cap and because they dont have a single bad contract after trading with Wizards, they have no need for Mcgrady's expiring contract.
So that leaves us with the following tradable assets: (in order of value)
1.Brooks
2.Scola
3.Battier
4.Landry
5.Lowry
The Wolves have 2 great young PFs in Kevin Love and Al Jefferson so they wouldn't need Scola or Landry. That leaves us with Brooks, Battier and Lowry. If a team could choose between Brooks or Lowry, they would pick Brooks every single team. The offer of Brooks plus Battier for Rubio makes sense to me.(provided that we are genuinely interested in Rubio... which i think we are)

Rubio has elite PG vision at a very young age, that's why he is so coveted. But if we're in win now mode the trade doesn't really make sense for HOU, and at the same time it doesn't make sense for MIN because why would they need a vet like Battier when they aren't going anywhere anytime soon? Wasn't meant to be for Rubio to be here.

And for the record, I'm a complete believer in Ricky Rubio. I think he's gonna be a sure fire superstar in the NBA. Him and Kevin Durant are going to rule this league for years to come. I don't remember the last time i was this enamored by a young PG. I was sold the moment i watched him play in the Olympics.(i've seen Spain play multiple times now) Maybe its the hair....
When was the last time a player with this much BBIQ turned out to be a Bust? It may take him a few years but he gonna be legit.

Shaun Livingston turned out to be a bust, another guy with great vision and a shaky jumpshot but was derailed with injuries.

Exactly! This pursuit needs to come to an end.

I had read rumors about Rockets offering Griz, Battier and Brooks for #2 and Gay that Griz rejected such Rocket offer. As Battier and Brooks is > than #2 pick (Rubio), Gay is more likely to balance the trade.
If I have to to guess, this New York Source probably used his own interpretation like what i am doing now that if Rockets was willing to trade Battier and Brooks for Rubio + other Griz player (filling), then rockets will be willing to offer the same package to wolves for rubio + other wolves player (filling).
update:
Doing some research and found:
http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baske ... tml?page=2T-WOLVES: They have been losers since Kevin McHale delivered Kevin Garnett to Boston on a silver platter. And that hasn't changed.
First-time GM David Kahn could have taken Curry and Arizona PF Jordan Hill with the No. 5 and No. 6 picks, and gotten rave reviews. But he went with two point guards, Spain's Ricky Rubio and Syracuse product Jonny Flynn. They both need the ball and can't play together. So guess what? Kahn got panned.
But he took Rubio to trade him. Now comes the hard part: Finding Rubio a new home.
Houston was one of the first teams to come in with an offer. But the Rockets got nowhere with Aaron Brooks and Shane Battier.
http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baske ... JnxtdLNK&DSo Morey may do make such an offer but will be probably be Battier + Brooks for Rubio + other wolves players.

We were really close this year. and with no certainty that Ron Ron is coming back. I can't see us giving up our best defender on a maybe, (regardless of reports, until he plays, Rubio is a maybe in this league.) And Brooks overachieved in this last playoff run. I can't believe it.
Every article, every word that you hear from Morey, regarding Battier is the same. without saying it, Morey says it. Battier, (At this point in his career) is untradable. you can argue about the tangibles of his game, whatever. Battier will be in Houston, at least as long as Yao, if not longer.

Somehow doubt that Battier would be on block unless Artest was signed and McGrady back healthy.
It's a NY Post bit in an article showing how Knicks don't have enough. And who would be his source-the Rockets who under Morey pull off trades w/no warning? Or Minn trying to drive up trade value?
I call BS on this one.
But I wouldn't be suprised if the teams have talked, just about diff players.
I think the Rockets offer is Brooks,Landry and Budinger. Jefferson is still in rehab, they're not sure when he'll be ready. Their SFs have no outside shooting and Budinger would give that at a cheap price.
Personally I believe Minn is holding out for an offer from a really bad team and wants an unconditional First and a young talent.

I don't see why it's odd to think Battier would be offered for the 5th pick. After all, he was traded to Houston for the 8th pick and now he's 3 years older. I think Rubio will be a star. I doubt Minnesota has any interest at all in a Battier/Brooks package. Even if they value Shane highly, it doesn't make a lot of sense to trade for an older guy when the rest of their team is very young and a couple years away. Meanwhile, Brooks is kind of like Foye, who they just traded away (I like Brooks more than Foye, but neither one is a PG). I don't think Kahn likes combo guards, if he did they could have just taken Curry.

I can't see this trade being about us getting Rubio and using him in the season. We're too old to develop him. I could definitely be wrong since we have legitimate weapons at every position and Rubio could very well have a Rondo type rookie (and maybe championship) year with us.
BUT, I could also see Rubio as a piece that is acquired in order to get another guard. For example, maybe we acquire Rubio, and then ship him with Landry, Tmac for CP3 + NO's bad contracts. N.O. is in a lot of financial trouble and would hate giving up CP3 at all but if they lose a good amount of salary and aldo get a promising young guard like Ricky, it makes that blow much easier to take.
purely speculation of course...but I think that is a very Morey-esque move to make.

if we are in a win-now mode
why do we want to trade 2 of our elite players for a rookie pg that may not play this season

That's because he got hurt and an even bigger reason was the coaching staff. When was the last the Clippers made good decision. Think about all the good players that have gone on to do bigger things AFTER leaving L.A Clippers.
I absolutely dislike the Clippers. Seriously you must not know much about Shaun Livingston's career and injury to make such a ludicrous comment.
