Im very confused on why Mitch and Daryl did not get together and make this a sign and trade? Both teams would still be able to use the MLE else where. The trade would definitely work money-wise.
Someone help me here, explain.

I don't think neither party were expecting this. Plus, they say Artest wanted a deal done today.

You may yet see that so don't be sure it's not a possibility.

If you're wondering, sign-and-trade for Ariza-Artest is extremely difficult due to Ariza's BYC status once he signs.

What KevC said.
Plus, I have to think that both Mitch and Daryl were thinking that they were screwing the other team with their respective deals.

Exactly, that tied to the 1 year deal Houston wanted offer Artest... Who would bother with that? He wants a firm deal now! Next year his stock goes down because he is a bit older and because the free agent list next year is insane, he wont get the money he wants then!

The Lakers were NOT looking to help Ariza's POS Agent, that's why!
Ariza signed with the Rockets for the SAME amount that he REFUSED and claimed to be INSULTED by from the Lakers.
Don't forget your sunscreen Trevor!

showtimefan. The rockets only offered Artest a one year contract. So he got pissed and took less over a longer period.. Hehe. Just FYI. Not arguing with u. So Artest and Ariza feel the same way

It's more than about the money with Ariza. I think he felt that his playing time would decrease since Lakers were signing artest. So he felt disrespected that they'd bring someone that could replace him
