Cap'n Jack developed some very bad habits in GS last yr. He stopped playing defense,he routinely gave up on games once GS got down 10+ points,he jacked up bad shots and is a human turnover machine.(Have no idea of truthfulness, but over on GS board most of past yr there has been constant mention of his,uh,affection for alchohol.) He has 4 yrs to go on a contract that is $7.6mil+.$8..4mil+,$9.2mil+ and ends at over $10mil when he's 34. He's a much better SF than SG and the Rockets are loaded at the SF.
NO THANKS.

Rockets aren't interested in rent-a-players. They have a plan to build around speed, youth and defense. Nothing that Stephen Jackson can bring.

Aside: Do you think Steven Jackson is the best player to have brandished a firearm in a public place?

Discuss.

As far as NBA players? Sir Charles was known to carry a gun, though I don't recall him ever waving it about to and fro in a public fashion...so perhaps SJ wins that prestigious award. I think further reflection upon such matters is needed before I can fully commit to any one player.
We watched the tragedy unfold. We did as we were told, we bought and sold. It was the greatest show on Earth...but then it was over.

jackson will play his hardest if he's on a good team, rockets are that, he can play defense very well, he can play the game very well, just not w/ a bad team. he wont take all the shots or ballhog, he'll be the 2nd or hopefully 3rd scorer behind tmac and brooks/scola. he's clutch as hell, doubt we'll get him but he's not as bad as you think, specially if he's the 3rd/4th best player on the team, he'll be doing really well.

Pretty much. Jack is hyper competitive and will try like hell to win. The problems are he's pushing, trying to play over his head...which Nellie encourages...then Nellie plays him 40 min and he's mentally and physically burnt out in the 4th quarter. With no legs his J does not drop and he'll drive and have no hops. Sometimes he's more emotionally burned out. 30-35 min with some chill time...damn good. Run him into the ground and he's trying to win the damn game and he has nothing left.
Nellie gets tunnel vision...sees what he wants to. Jack can't carry a team,not quite,but he's a multi task impact player who,unlike many,you don't prod...instead you restrain him.

I don't know what the Rockets would give but the Mavs seem to think they get him for expiring garbage..and the GSW front office is incompetent...so,who knows, they may wreck what was a sure team on the rise. I'd THINK the Warriors need at least a solid front court depth guy. I doubt the Warriors just deal with the Knicks, the Texas teams and Orlando, but, for that matter they may do nothing till mid season.
CENSORED... No comment.

I'm torn. I really like Jackson, but I really, really hate that contract! What were they thinking when they signed him to that???

Of the five teams he said he'd go to (Hou, SA, Dal, Cle, NY) I actually do think that we'd be the best fit for the guy, and that doesn't even factor in that he'd be closest to home here. The problem is what would we have to give up for him?

If he is demanding a trade and sticks with it, that is good for the destination teams. We would be able to low-ball the Warriors who will not get back fair value if forced to deal him.

While I have serious doubts about Jackson's game at this point, here's the bigger question-where would he play?
McGrady's coming back(and he'll be here for season,Morey has been quite open that he's not moving T-Mac unless it's for a playmaking star, not junk and a good player). There's Ariza,Battier and the two kids in Budinger and Taylor the Rockets want to develope.
Would you really want to essentially swap Battier for Jackson? I sure don't think the Rockets would.
Ariza is a big part of the future,he's going to get his minutes.

w/ last season he had to be a point forward way too much, causing hella turnovers and helped his inconsistent shooting. nellie obviously made him do too much, and he still delivered, cuz you know, HE DOESNT SUCK YOU **** IDIOT, but he delivered w/ TOs and bad shooting, etc. his contract is barely overpaid, if he'll do what he sposed to do, i wouldnt even call him overpaid. doubt we'll get him but for the right trade or w/e he can do wonders for this team, prolly start shooting 45%, has to have tmac this season tho or he'll be the same.

Return to Houston Rockets
