I wonder which TMac will show up?

I'd love to see him back at top form, but if he's not at top form then I can only see him disrupting the chemistry that seems to have developed in his absence.

Ah, well, hope for the best. If he comes back even 90% of his old self it'll be a huge bonus for us.

So kick me when I’m down, because I swear to you, I’ll be back up. And when I get back up, I’m going to sit back, and I’m going to laugh, man, because I’m going to have the last laugh."- Tracy McGrady

Breaking News: T-Mac to be placed on the IR on Nov. 19th.

I kid, I hope he comes back in vintage form so we can get more for him once we trade him.
We watched the tragedy unfold. We did as we were told, we bought and sold. It was the greatest show on Earth...but then it was over.

Reading the latest report from Chron.com, it seem TMac has gone to the press to announce the Nov 18 date without communicating with the Rocket Management.

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/spo ... 11927.html

Tracy McGrady said on Monday that he would make his season debut Nov. 18.

The Rockets, however, said neither they nor McGrady knows when McGrady would go through a full practice, much less a game.

Morey had said that the timetable could be changed and that McGrady could return earlier or later than expected. But he said that the team had not set the Nov. 18 game, or any other date, as a target for his return to the games.

"Obviously, we’ll want the doctor to see him in a full practice, that situation," Morey said. "We’re sort of taking it day-by-day, how the team is looking, how he’s doing and what the doctor is saying.

"I don’t think there is a specific day. We did announce that day because it was our best guess at the time. It could be earlier and it could be later. It’s just when the doctors and everyone agrees he is 100 percent He has been practicing off and on with the team. Once the doctors say he is OK and he’s 100 percent, and we feel he is 100 percent he could return."

Hope this is a miscommunication that TMac is just overly excited to come back. Otherwise, the signs are not good regarding the relationship between TMac and Rocket Management.

Further thoughts: If TMac has not even played in a full training practice, how does he know he is ready for Nov 18? Seem like TMac's mouth is again ahead of his body and Rocket's plan similar to when he announced to the press about the season ending surgery before talking to Rockets Management. Definitely something to worry about.

Don't put too much hope on the Nov 18 date. Below is extracted from Jonathon's blog in his response to questions regarding Tmac's status:

(Daryl Morey said this morning that nothing has changed with the team's plans regarding McGrady's return and that he would need to be observed through a full practice to be cleared. The next full practice is Nov. 23. -- Jonathan)

(Actually, McGrady says 'yes' and Yahoo! quoted him. He does not get to decide who plays and when, however, and the Rockets do not seem to be planning on him returning that day. -- Jonathan)

jon,

in his new blog, tracy said he's going all out in practice and is not being held out anymore. he's simply awaiting for the doctors to clear him to play.

you always claim (and even with the new article) that tracy has been going in "spurts" at practice.

who should we believe?

(Don't believe me. I am not permitted to watch practices. I do quote people accurately, however. Daryl Morey said this morning that McGrady's participation in practice has been "off and on." -- Jonathan)

"Tracy McGrady has told Yahoo! Sports he plans to return to the Houston Rockets' lineup on Nov. 18.

..."Excited to get back and compete at a high level again," McGrady said in an email to Yahoo! Sports."

McGrady played doctor last season. Is he taking on the roles of GM & coach this season?

(Apparently, but I think those jobs are already filled. -- Jonathan)

Went to Tracy's blog and he has an update today:
http://www.t-mac.com/tmac/blogDetail/2139

Did not mention the Nov 18 date but said he is in good shape and believe he can play earlier than expected rather than later.

I’m in a good place mentally and my body feels ready to get back out there, so now I am just waiting on my doctors to give me the clearance to go ahead to play. I’m going full speed at practice and am not being held out of drills anymore. I’m going full speed at practice and am not being held out of drills anymore. I’m hoping to get out there as soon as possible, and with everything that my doctors have been telling me, it sounds like that will be sooner rather than later.

He also comments about the current rockets and really like what he has seen so far.
Being in the league for as long as I have, you notice there are some years you have great teams with that potential to go all the way. It’s something you just feel, and working day in and day out together with this group leads me to believe this team can do it. We have tremendous talent out there but more importantly, this team has a lot of heart. I can’t wait to get out there and contribute. This has all the makings of being a great season in Houston, even without having Yao in there.

You know, I just don't know how I feel about this. I mean, don't get me wrong of course I want to see McGrady succeed. But I do have concerns about him not being 100%, and I'm worried about the chemistry. Who's minutes and shots will he be taking away from? I just don't know how this will effect the balance of this budding team.

More updates.. Jonathon has just uploaded an article regarding Tmac's announcement in his blog:
http://blogs.chron.com/nba/2009/11/mac_ ... nks_s.html
This time, the Rockets get to have a say about decisions about the Rockets.

Like last season, handling the decision this way, while discourteous at best, really won't make much of a difference. This season, however, the decision is not up to him. He'll play when someone else says he'll play.

In his blog, McGrady praised his teammates' for their strong start to the season. But he had stolen the attention from their play and put it back on the guy who is not playing. Worse, while Morey has said McGrady is not going through full participation in practice, McGrady said in his blog "I have been practicing, training, and rehabbing hard for my return to the court.

The Rockets refused to play along. Morey released a statement Monday evening saying "no timetable has been set for his return."

In other words, this time, they will decide. And whether McGrady disagrees, if he was trying to pressure them on Monday, even if he believes he still calls the shots, won't matter. This time, despite McGrady's announcement, it's really not up to him.

I am not going to believe anything that Tmac says about when he is coming back or how his practices are going.

I do want a healthy McGrady to come back, but like so many others, I am also worried about team chemistry and can he actually play in Adelman's system this time.

This team does not need any attention hogs disrupting chemistry. Not encouraging to hear, but not surprising either.

I think Morey and Adelman will be the final judges on when he makes his debut this season. I really wish he'd play within the system and coordinate things with them. I want to see him come back and have an impact, but not if he's going to be disruptive.

I would actually prefer he took a dimished role upon his return. I think he can share minutes with Brooks and Ariza (I actually think he's a nice bridge between them), as well as Battier and Budinger. If he comes back and fits into things, doesn't try and take over, then this will definitely be positive. If he tries to dominate and ends up inefficiently taking minutes from others... This is truly an Adelman system now, and he needs to work within it, not try and run it.

One thing I love about our current lineup is that we have no drama queens - no huge egos that need massaging, just guys who give it all every night. I'll take that over talent at this point.

wow lads dont get too suspicious on your biggest star already... I think it's time Tmac get serious. The team is winning games easily, there would be little pressure on him, so l'd say this time is solid true and he is making a smart move.
now he needs to take time to blend into the new system, that means no ball hogging, play team ball, trust team mates, and run n gun and all.
