Gortat??
I'm not as good as the other guys on these boards about trades and making them work, salary-wise, but I'm sure Gortat was on Morey's wishlist in the offseason. I know we have great chemistry right now, but you make it a hell of a lot easier to win with a big man in the middle. Let's see what it'll take.....

Re: Gortat??
He would help. But who do we trade for him. Magic would definitely want one of the PGs and probably Battier. Would probably give up Battier if we got Pietrus back.

He was on Morey's wishlist. In fact, Daryl Morey was the first person to talk to him when Free agency began. He quickly decided that Gortat was asking for more than he thought that he was worth, so he stopped pursuing him.
I don't think that he'd be interested in going after him now, paying him more than he wanted to in the summer. I could be wrong, but I think that he is priced out of Morey's range for that position, and he went with David Andersen instead.

Re: Gortat??
He just signed the big contract this off-season, so wouldn't his trade status be BYC? If so, that makes the trade even harder to accomplish. From what I believe, BYC is half the player's outgoing salary (in this case, Gortat's outgoing salary would be ($2,9270,00), while their incoming salary would be the total salary ($5,854,000).
Considering both teams are over the cap, it'd probably have to be turned into a larger deal. For it work under the cap, the most minimum contract we could give out to make it work would roughly be in the 4.6 million range. But since Orlando's outgoing salary would be 2.9, which translates to roughly 3.7 million after the 125% rule, a 4.6 million dollar contract would be too large for it work under the CBA.
Again, I might be way off, so disregard this post if that's the case.

Ya that's about right with the salary situation. Only a massive trade involving Tmac with his massive expiring will be able to cover the BYC type of transaction. But Tmac going back to Magic? I think 0 chance. Even somehow they get other player involved (and not including Tmac), the luxury tax that come with such BYC may just put the whole deal off.

Re: Gortat??
Yeah, if Orlando had another useless large expiring, there could have potentially been a deal between the two. But overlooking their roster, and almost every other roster in the NBA, McGrady's contract is too large to match up with. They'd have to give up either Pietrus, and all their depth (including guys like Johnson, Anderson/Barnes, and that wouldn't even get it done). There's no chance they'd do that, let alone give up one of their greater core players.
With championship contenders that are already set, it'd probably be impossible to trade McGrady to them, barring Cleveland because of their large amount of expiring contracts.
