Tracy McGrady

Post#1 » by SirHuey » Sun Dec 6, 2009 6:42 pm

- Do you believe he will remain a Rocket by the end of the season or will he get traded no matter what?

- If he remains healthy by the end of the season, and plays good...will you welcome him back for a lower contract?

This team has gotten better than before, the role players have stepped up and developed...and with the addition of Yao and T-Mac, it'll only be better...so my last question is:
Would you like to see one last run with Yao Ming and T-Mac (As long both men are healthy)?

1. I believe he'll stay as a Rocket. There simply isn't a good package that is being offered at this point. I doubt Morey is willing to take bad contract just for the sake of "getting something for an expiring asset". Even if McGrady makes a successful comeback, no team will make a good package for an expiring contract.

2. McGrady needs to show that he can manufacture some numbers while staying healthy. It also depends on how much "cut" he's willing to accept.

Thinking about 2010 salaries:
@ $42.8mil w/Hayes
@ $11mil in resigning Scola,Lowry and a Conroy/Temple(either League rookie min or up to the $725thou Bud/Taylor got)
@ $1.2mil for First Rd draftee
Adds up to @ $55mil for 13 players
Assuming Lux Tax declines to @ $68mil that leaves only some $12-14mil for an MLE FA and McGrady.(Or the max contracts the Rockets could take back in a McGrady trade.)
Leaves @ 9-12mil for McGrady.

Tisbee
How does that leave our roster before any FA signings not named Scola and Lowry?
By the way...
I see Scola getting around 7mil/year and Lowry getting a contract similar to Landrys.

If Tmac is willing to sign $9-10 million a year, do rocket fans think it is worthwhile for the rockets? Or is it better to try to sign and trade Tmac for another impact player (not necessary superstar but impact player)?

It doesnt work like this. the cap space you have is not the lux tax minus the payroll but the salary cup minus ths payroll. But all that doesnt matter. Mcgrady played for the Rockets the last 3 years which means he is a Larry Bird FA which means you can pay him whatever you want. If Morey wants, he can give max contracts to Brooks (Also a Bird FA), Scola (same), Landry (..)and T-mac and still have the MLE to sign another player.

Wouldn't be too absurd to think if he returns and plays effective enough. The bigger question is if the organization is going to resign Yao to a max contract or not, especially with a career defining surgery like his.

I think a lot of Houston fans are going to be surprised when there aren't very many offers for Tracy.

....But, that's just my opinion, as he has devalued himself over the last two years with his attitude and injuries...not to mention his age and salary.

If he plays great and isn't out of the lineup, leads us to the playoffs, and does his playoff thang except we win a series or two than ya I'd re-sign him to a 3 deal worth 30-36 million.

He is just giving some ballpark salary range for Tmac should Rocket try to resign him while keeping the total salary under the luxury cap. If rockets continue to believe the current group can be a championship contender, he will be willing to pay luxury tax for it but they have experiment it and no result to show except one 2nd round trip.
