Before you call this guy a complete wash-out straight out of high school remember that he had the worst of luck with injuries. "Never could get right" as Reggie Miller used to call him was one of this prospect big guys that was too young and didn't really know how to prepare himself or take care of himself when entering this league. He went on a hiatus and learned more about the game and this time around is better prepared. I think him going to the Knicks instead of a team like the current Rockets is just a waste. Anderson is worth getting rid of to make room for this guy. Remember, healthy this guy blocks shots, is way athletic and could help the Rockets without Yao and when Yao returns. He's 7'0 and grew about an 1" and half since when he entered the league out of high school.

I won't expect Bender to be anything more than a spot up shooter when he comes back.

I think the Rockets have had enough of the "If healthy," projects.

Bender is better off signing with the Knicks over the Rockets. The Rockets are competing for a playoffs spot, which means they shouldn't waste a roster spot on someone who requires time for adjustment. Despite his size, Bender was removed from the league for over 3 years. I think he will require months to get himself in game shape.

This move makes perfect sense for teams like the Knicks. It's a low risk move given that the Knicks are still rebuilding and aren't in a hurry to see someone like Bender make progress.
