What is everyone's take on this? Personally, I like it a lot. The way I see it, why should players be guaranteed millions of dollars if their owners are suffering losses? No real business runs that way and this should be no different. It also makes the league so much more competitive. Honestly, I wish there was more of an NFL type salary system with non guaranteed contracts. I'm tired of players getting ridiculous contracts and then coasting for years until their contract year and suddenly playing at all star caliber. This keeps everyone motivated, everyone working and everyone trying their hardest.

Obviously the players union is going to bitch about this but I really don't think the NBA should back down this time. I would HATE to have a lockout but if its for the good of the league long term, it may be worth it.

I think that we're going to see a lot of posturing from both sides, and possibly even that lockout.

I do think that both sides understand that the lockout will be horrible for all involved; but each side will wait for the other to blink first and keep waiting til it's too late.

It's been written that NBA players SOMEHOW can't actually afford a real lockout. If this is the case, the owners stand to lose far less by holding out than by giving in. (but it better result in lower ticket prices for the fans). It'll be interesting to see if the top-tier players threaten to use Europe as leverage (which would quite possibly involve dumping any kind of loyalty to all the lesser-paid players).

When sympathizing with the owners however, remember this term: Hollywood Accounting.
Also, there's really no chance ticket prices lower unless it's necessary on a franchise-by-franchise basis, so throw that point out the window.

I think the players and owers should split the revenue. Anyway you slice the owners need the players the player need the owners and we need the NBA. Why is it that these PRo teams ( football, Baseball, Basketball) keep fighting over the $$. Yes I think it is crazy I guy get 100 million to play basketball, but it is equally crazy for an owner to line his pockets with all of our hard earned cash and other teams cant stay competiative because they dont want to spend the $ to keep there players. ( This is a huge problem with Baseball) It would be nice if the owner and Player could split the revenue. Have the players sit down and split the revenue based on performance. That way everyone gets a cut and we dont have lockouts.
