Ok, first I'll say that this deal is confusing me a bit, but so did the Lowry one at first.

Moron, I HATE you. And I am sure that others agree. You traded away one of the future Stars of the NBA. and you got screwed in the backside for your trouble. Moron went to MIT did he? Who's penis did he blow, to graduate?
Dude, chill. You're sounding like McGrady2Head. That's a
bad thing, you're a better poster than that.
Landry may be a future "star", but so far, he hasn't shown the ability to rebound consistently, defend consistently, he's had some injury issues, too, and he'll be 27 next year. I DO like his efficient offensive game, but we got back another guy who has one.

1. Luis Scola or Carl Landry, one of em must go, either one is deserving 34+mins of PT, but this aint gonna happen since none of em can play C.
This is something that a lot of us have known in the backs of our heads, but that no one, self included, has really wanted to face the reality of.
2. Carl Landry is making 3 mil this and next year, that means he's expiring next year, you really think we can retain this guy with something like MLE? I am afraid he is going to ask for something around 8-9.5 mil per year if he can keep up his stats, we gonna lose him unless we decide not to resign Luis Scola.
Additionally, recall from his contract negotiations that his agent is a douche.
3. I think Luis Scola is more consistent than Carl Landry, this is what Rick Adelman is looking for in his Princeton offense, also IMO Scola is a better fit than Carl Landry with Yao back next year.
It's part of why Landry's never managed to supplant Scola, who should play at the level he's at for 3 more seasons, and can now take a few more minutes (though I, and every other fan in Houston, has REALLY appreciated The Platoon)
4. Luis Scola exp this year, I think we will do everything to re-sign him back to multi-years contract, no need to worry about Carl next year.
This does give us a good signal to send to Scola about our level of commitment. Isn't he RFA, too?
5. We desperately need someone that can score effectively in the swing man position, why not just get one of the best scorer in the league?
What? You make it sound like people are bitching about Ariza being forced to take so many shots this year.
6. Kevin Martin understands Rick's system, and I think he is one of the ideal guy you can bring into the system, he is going to adopt in instantly
Just please, no injuries

Brooks/Lowry/Sergio
Kevin Martin/Ariza/Taylor
Shane Battier/Ariza/Budinger
Luis Scola/This year's Draft
Yao Ming/Hayes/Armstrong
We also still have Hayes to swing to the PF slot like he used to do, and did in Scolandry's rookie season (starting prior to Scola replacing him, then 2nd string until Landry replaced him).
Dorsey is no big deal. I want to believe he can get it together, but the dude just... has no brain. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that he is among the dumbest players in the NBA. He's had serious character issues with us, too. Bit of a KOD for a second round draft pick, no matter how perfectly built for basketball they are.
No problem with getting back Sergio. I've heard very mixed reviews on him, but he seems to have some potential.
That leaves us really, with a hole at C for this season, and potentially with some reduction at PF depth for the next few.
This year: Hayes/Anderson/Armstrong. Scola almost HAS to move out of playing C with his increased PF minutes.
Brooks/Lowry(when he comes back)/Sergio
Martin/Ariza/JT
Battier/Ariza
Scola/Hayes
Hayes/Anderson/Armstrong
It might have cut us out of the playoff race for this year, but didn't a lot of you want that anyway?
Ariza's going to do a LOT better matched against second stringers, if that's what's going to happen.
That means we got:
- Martin, an offensively efficient mostly-reasonably paid swingman (10m per year, increases by 1m per year for the next 3 seasons, finishing at 13m)
- KT expires this year, and I believe is insured
- Hilton Armstrong isn't too bad of a backup C, OH HAI he's that athletic shotblocker we've been looking for since forever! (hehe) Tolerable rebounder, gets some putbacks.
- Sergio I know very little about.
- Hilton and Sergio are "qualifying offer" players. I don't quite understand what that means, but think it means they're playing this season on a qualifying offer and become UFA's at the end of the season, at which point, we wouldn't have to sign them. They give us depth at two spots we're hurting this year, and will clear some cap space and roster spots if left unsigned.
- Dorsey still makes me a bit sad.
- We cut a large amount of salary this year. 23.426m in (8.553 should be insured), 27.12 out. Salaries are now 69.938. Luxury tax threshhold is $69.92. If those numbers are right, expect another trade, we want the dividend from being under the threshold. This trade saves 3.694 * 2 + whatever the under-tax dispersal is, or roughly 7-10m + 6m (KT insurance, at 75% of salary). As I understand it, TMac was not insured after he played. I would expect we're already under the threshold though, and something about those numbers is just wrong. They're too conspicuously close to still be over it.
- El Vino is LOW on TO's, reasonable on steals, and has become a better rebounder than he was, capable of 45/40/85.
- The trade amounted to Landry for Kevin Martin, WITH a massive expense reduction. Some people would call that a steal.
