Houston Rockets 2010 Draft

The season's not over yet. We're months away from the draft. We have no clue where we'll be drafting.

So why am I starting this thread.

First off, I am obviously an attention-whore, so let's just get that out on the table.

Second, and more importantly, other than John Wall & DeMarcus Cousins what players are out there that you guys are keeping an eye on? I really haven't paid much attention to college ball this year, so I don't know what players may be turning heads.

Of course we also have Europe, Asia & South America to look to for prospects. Anyone interesting on that front?

And lastly, there is always that chance that The Wizard uses our draft pick this year in a trade. Could that be the most likely thing?

Just curious about what kind of upcoming talent is out there.

I expect draft picks, Budinger, and a former Knick or two to be included in a big deal this summer.

Don't trade Chase, we can't give up all our young pieces... Landry has already been a big blow

I think there's a good chance the pick will be part of a bigger trade package. If not Morey will have to look for a big.

I haven't watched a lot of college ball, but it looks like there'll be some quality bigs out there. DeMarcus Cousins, Derrick Favors, Greg Monroe, Patrick Patterson, Cole Aldrich, etc...

I think depending on how Morey evaluates those guys and how he expects the draft to go down, it's also possible he'll trade up to get the guy he wants.

Looking at the current roster it's also save to say there's a good chance one of Budinger and Battier will be part of a trade (package), if some kind of trade would go down.

Assuming the draft pick isn't traded away-and keeping in mind Morey's comment about replacing Landry in draft-it's a fairly good bet the Rockets will draft a senior big who has rebounded very well in college. 6 of Morey's 8 draft picks were seniors and a 7nth was a 21 yr-old European player.(The eighth,Dante was of course quickly traded to Sac as part of Artest deal. Which begs the question was he drafted for Sac all along?)
I think we can also assume after the Dorsey experiment that the Rox wil not draft players w/character issues. (No Cousins in other words.)

We trade off picks, to get Landry back. Once Moron realises what a buffoon he has been. Except now it costs us more, than letting McLady rot at the end of our bench.

I've watched enough games to know Evan Turner is a beast, but he is probably top 3 if not the 1st.

Some good points.

Having that said, if you look at the bench roster next year with Lowry, Budinger, Battier and Hayes, it'd be nice to have a big who's not only a good rebounder, but also a good scorer (Landry basically).

Lookinig at some of the mock drafts it doesn't seem like there are any senior bigs out there that fit that bill.
So it would look like Morey will have to go a diffrent route this year.

He might draft a junior this year, maybe even a sophomore or trade the pick away and pursue a big via free-agency (Haslem, J. O'Neal, Tyrus Thomas).

We'll have to wait and see.

Agreed w/ tisbee's and x-'s comments. Always fun to watch Morey maestro a draft. It's like if we'd had a chance to watch Beethoven compose in real time (with or without Animaniacs).

You're really starting to sound like McGrady2Head from 2-3 years ago. His posts once made my ears burn. (with green flames, mind you)

I'm not sure if Wall is the best player on that Kentucky team, but he no doubt will be a very good pro... like Devin Harris, with less defense but better passing.

Turner will win the Naismith Award, the dude is by far the best player in the country.
He does everything well and is just so smooth...
He is like a less athletic McGrady or maybe a bigger B. Roy.
Turner can score on anyone but he is an unselfish playmaker. Who plays solid defense. or maybe a bigger B. Roy.

Sigh... well I guess its time I start talking about the draft as well!

As far as lotto picks go. Obviously I'd love to get Wall, Turner, or Cousins. But as players that could be available at 14... I like Damion James from Texas.

I think the potential steals in the 2nd rounder are Trevor Booker (landry 2.0) and Willie Warren!

I'd be happy with those 3 guys.

Be advised that as talented as Cousins is,there are major character/off-court issues. If he's available at the Rockets pick, they will have to think long and hard, esp after Dorsey,Artest experiences. Wouldn't be suprised to see them trade out to a team willing to take the chance in exchange for more picks/player.

Damion James is a good player but I don't think someone who's going to make an immediate impact.

He'd still be playing Scola/Hayes and maybe Hill or Ariza/Battier and Bud.

If it was up to me I'd try and swing the pick and Andersen or Hill for Gortat.

I see what you mean, but too many time team overthink about these sort of stuffs and let a good talents go away. Only example I can think right now is Amare and hes turning out fine. I just think it depend on the organization that they go to.
